Auckland City

Advantages: Great place to see views of city
Disadvantages: It is a city and New Zealand is so much more beautiful to go rural

General over view: Auckland was my first destination when I arrived in New Zealand, traveling into the city and seeing the Sky Tower for the first time was really cool, I remember thinking I made it! I am really here!! The City is big but easy to get around using the tram system they have in place. It is a very clean and friendly city, if you don't have long I would recommend a couple of days here. The Sky Tower is the main thing to see and do and is a great place to get great views, I also recommend taking a ferry trip to one of the near by islands. A great hint and tip for you is to take the Stray Bus free city tour, this was great to see what Auckland has to offer you, and you can book onto the tour through your hostel. They pick you up from the hostel and first take you to the Sky Tower, here they will ask if anyone wants to ...

Give Castle Lodge the Dodge

Advantages: A historical building
Disadvantages: disappointing and spoilt by the owners

CASTLE LODGE It was a family day out in Ludlow and whilst I was sitting resting on the bench, waiting for my hubby to return from checking the car and the parking fees, I noticed this really old Tudor style house opposite and on closer inspection discovered that it was open to the public. We didn?t go in straight away, but I did drop a big hint like, ?I want to go in there before we go home? to the family, so that they would not be surprised after the visit to the castle that we went in here. After we had a lovely lunch in the café situated next door to the lodge after a amazing trip around the castle. We were all in high spirits and enjoying our food and refreshments, I dropped the bombshell that I wanted to see the house, they did try to dissuade me as they were now getting slightly tired and wanted to do a little retail ...

Review of Castle Lodge, Ludlow

Auckland / Northland highlights.

Advantages: big city, islands, picture perfect scenery ...
Disadvantages: Auckland traffic is a killer

transport when visiting but if you turn up at the airport and need to get to the city, there are various shuttles, buses and taxis at your service. Once in the city, buses are basically the only mode of transport. There is a ferry service to various points around the vicinity but basically, if you want to get around a bit it will be easier all round to rent a car. ACCOMMODATION There are loads of hotels and backpackers lodges in the CBD and after staying in a few, I am not overly keen on staying right in the city itself. The city is quite noisy during the night ... especially on the weekends. If you have your own transport I would suggest staying in Parnell or alternately, head to the North Shore and find a quiet hotel, motel or B&B for a few days. Check out the discount hotel website www.wotif.com for some good last minute deals ...
