The best restaurant in Glasgow??

Advantages: Delicious food, attentive staff, central location, best haggis in Glasgow!
Disadvantages: Bit expensive!

City Merchant is my personal favourite among restaurants in Glasgow. It is located in the Merchant City (confusing I know!)part of Glasgow which is centred around Merchants square - so named as was originally built for the Glasgow Fruit Market. Merchant Square is found on Candleriggs, Bell Street and Albion Street with entrances to the square from each street. This is only 5mins walk from George Square. There are numerous bars located in Merchant ...
...Square, you will find the City Merchant restaurant. This restaurant is known as a seafood restaurant, but for the non-fish lovers out there like me, I assure you they have plenty of other dishes! (see below for details and a link to their website for menus)

The exterior of the restaurant is classy and where you may find yourself later in the evening if you smoke due to the smoking ban! Upon entering the restaurant, you're welcomed ... more

Cheap and cheerful in the city centre!

Advantages: central; friendly; very helpful staff
Disadvantages: youth hostel-type feel; no parking; some noise

I stayed at Rab Ha's "boutique hotel" with my boyfriend and another couple of friends in July 2006. We booked two of the four rooms available as we had a wedding to attend short walk along the road in Merchant City (we used mulitimap to locate one of the nearest venues for a quick stumble home after the reception!) Having lived in Glasgow for a number of years, I was aware of Rab Ha's as a nice bar with a good atmosphere for a night out but didn't realise that it also had guest rooms upstairs. We had a look on the internet and liked the look of the rooms. Favouring something a bit different to the local Holiday Inn, we booked for the Saturday night. The cost of the stay was very cheap - £75 for the room, including breakfast. We arrived at 11am on the Saturday morning because the wedding started at 12. Although this is really ...

Review of Rab Ha's Hotel, Glasgow

Hull, one hell of a place?!

Advantages: An undiscovered city worth discovering.
Disadvantages: A little off the beaten track.

with history. In fact one of the oldest pubs in Hull (if not the country), Ye Olde White Harte has the Plotting Room, famous as being the place where city merchants and alike plotted to stop King Charles the 1st coming into the city, and was instrumental in the beginnings of the English Civil War. I could go on and on... And will, but not now. I aim to write about Hull in each of the sections that there are on cities in the UK & Ireland. Sorry if you were getting into my piece on my fair city, but I do not want to repeat myself, and will fully expand in the relevent sections. If you want to get a flavour of what is going on in Hull then I suggest you visit what is probably the best local community website in the country... www.thisisull.com P.S. Hey! Hull must be up and coming... The BBC have moved their BBCi section to Hull. Hull is becoming ...

Review of Hull in General

The treasures lie within and are rich

Advantages: Unique Caravaggio, amazing artwork, interesting tombs, tapestries
Disadvantages: Can get crowded

St John?s co-cathedral in Valletta is found in the heart of the city, on Republic Street and Merchant Street. Work started on the church following the Great Siege of Malta in 1565, when the Knights of St John of Jerusalem held out and defeated the Ottoman Turks. The building was completed in 1577, and dedicated to St John the Baptist, the patron saint of the knights? order. It is called a co-cathedral, since there was already a cathedral on the island at Mdina (I have reviewed this as well), but because the Knights were determined to construct a capital worthy of the name, which would have to include a cathedral, they arranged for this co-cathedral to have a throne (cathedra) for the Grand Master of the order. From the outside, there is no indication of the artistic treasures waiting on the inside. The church is still very strong ...
