We've just returned from a sightseeing trip to Prague and had a truly wonderful visit to this magnificent city.

We stayed for three nights at the 4* City Hotel Moran from 17th - 20th November and we found it to be a comfortable and peaceful retreat at the end of each hectic day.

The hotel has recently been tastefully refurbished (you can still get a faint smell of paint) and still has a 'new' feel to it.

SITUATION

The hotel is in central Prague, two minutes walk from the Vltava (Moldau) River and a very pleasant 15 minute riverside stroll to the Charles Bridge.

In fact most of the tourist attractions of this wonderful city are within easy walking distance.
The one exception to this is Prague Castle, however with a tram stop just around the corner from the hotel and a single fare of only 20 Czech Koruna (roughly 50p) this really is not a problem.

The shopping areas of the city centre are about a ten minute walk from the hotel, as are the main selections of restaurants and bars.

Within a few minutes walk of the hotel there are many nice restaurants and bars.

Karlovo metro station is about two minutes walk from the hotel.

RECEPTION

We travelled from Prague airport to the hotel by transfer taxi and as soon as the taxi arrived at the entrance to the hotel, the concierge appeared, took charge of our luggage and escorted us to reception where we checked in quickly and easily, we were pleasantly surprised to find that our room was available as it was only 11.00h.

We were given directions to our guest bedroom (209) on the second floor (this is a six storey building) and we had only stepped into the room when our luggage arrived.

The staff are multilingual - it is advertised that they speak English, German, French, Czech and Russian.

Safety Deposit boxes are located at reception (no charge)

GUEST BEDROOMS

We stayed in a standard room which was tastefully decorated in cream and pale green, it was a fairly large room furnished with twin beds, wardrobe (with full length mirror), bedside tables, dressing table with desk area attached and two comfortable chairs.

In addition there was a TV with remote control, radio, direct dial telephone, mini bar, air conditioning and central heating.

There was a stand on the dressing table with tourist information leaflets and room service menus etc.

There were plenty of lights in the bedroom, but as with many hotel rooms, the main emphasis was on mood lighting rather than bright lighting.

The en suite bathroom was large and well appointed with bath with shower over, WC, washbasin, electric shaver point and a very large mirror over the washbasin.

The hairdryer was located in the bathroom.

Towels and toiletries were supplied and replaced on a daily basis.

Lighting in the bathroom was excellent.

RESTAURANT

The restaurant will probably seat around forty people comfortably.
It looked extremely pleasant in the evenings and was serving a fairly extensive menu.
We chose to use local restaurants as they appeared to be offering better value for money.

The buffet breakfast was really great, there was a good choice of both hot and cold foods, which included fresh fruit, fruit juices, cereals, eggs, bacon, roll, croissants etc.
Tea and coffee were brought to the table by the restaurant staff.

Breakfast is served between 06.30h - 11.00h.

Snacks and full meals are available fro 11.00h - 22.00

COCKTAIL LOUNGE

This is an area adjacent to the restaurant which serves alcoholic and soft drinks. Tea and coffee are also available here. A nice relaxing place to have a nightcap.

The Bar is open between 11.00h - 24.00h

SUMMARY

This is a small hotel by today's standards, part of the Best Western Group, and is extremely well appointed for its four star rating.

All the members of staff we came into contact with were very helpful and friendly.

All areas of the hotel were immaculate.

It is ideally situated for a city break, other than taking the tram to Prague Castle, we were able to explore the sights on foot.

We requested extra pillows and tea and coffee making facilities for our room and these were supplied quickly and efficiently.

Room rates vary throughout the year, however the most up to date direct booking prices are available at the www address.

I would recommend this hotel for anyone thinking of taking a sightseeing city break to Prague.

I don't think the hotel would be suitable for wheelchair users, as several steps would have to be negotiated at the entranceway.
