Owing to the recession the hotel industry has been one of the hardest hit areas and as such, we have seen some of the most excellent deals come out as room rates drop back to prices charged in the 1990?s. Staying in the UK for the summer I decided to take advantage of some of these rates and looked into the special offers available from Crowne Plaza.
As a treat for myself and the other half, I decided we would go to Manchester for the weekend. It is a city I haven?t really explored much before and thought it would be a good weekend trip. I had seen the newly opened Crowne Plaza on this years Apprentice and the hotel and rooms looked very modern and stylish and when I saw the promotional prices I thought why the hell not and off we went.

I stayed at the Milford Plaza on my first trip to New York and had no idea about the city at all.
The hotel looks great from the lobby with escalators from the street level and it has a deli, gift shop and pub right underneath. There was always someone on duty by the lifts, always checking that you had a room key so it was fairly secure. It was in a great location, right on Times Square and next to the Broadway Theatres so there was lots to do right on your doorstep.
The rooms however were disappointing, and we didn't even have any power when we made it up there. It was quickly resolved though and we were able to settle in.
Our room was pretty basic - just the beds, a chair and tv on a stand - and I kept getting a static shock whenever I opened the door from walking on the carpet. There was a wardrobe which had an ironing ...

Amsterdam is home to three Crowne Plaza hotels; there's one at Schiphol airport, there's the "Americaine", and then there's the "Crowne PlazaCity Centre". It's at the latter that we recently had the pleasure of staying. Five minutes' walk from the Centraal (sic) Station which, itself, is a one-stop, 3.90 Euro, journey from Schiphol airport, I thought that its location was absolutely ideal.
This review breaks the mould - amongst other things. I am usually travelling with my wife, Amanda, and the nearly-three-years-old baby Josh.
