INTRODUCTION
It is great to be back on Ciao. A few months ago my wife and me spent a lovely week in Glasgow, staying at the CityInn. I don't know if our Karen has ever been to Scotland? The purpose of this op is to outline our stay at this hotel thereby giving you an impression whether you would like to stay here or not?
WHY WE CHOSE THIS HOTEL?
Our travel operator for this trip was British Airways Holidays. I am sure that cheaper options would be found by more research on the Internet. But we have travelled with BA Holidays before and feel comfortable travelling with them.
The BA Holidays website gave about 12 hotels to choose from. Some were eliminated due to the prices whilst others were discarded due to location. I ended up with a short-list of 4 hotels and selected the CityInn ...
Advantages: Price, features of room, location Disadvantages: err... food is a bit bland and pricey
I think I spend far too much time in hotels, and can be quite demanding. That said, it is with pleasure I report that the CityInn in Birmingham is a hidden gem.
Location
The hotel is located in the trendy Brindley Place development just off Broad Street in Birmingham, and as such is ideally situated for pubbing, clubbing and general merriment and yet being secluded (for a city) enough for a bit of peace and quiet. Brindley Place itself is home to a variety of trendy bars and restaurants including the (in)famous Bank and various luxury apartments. It's a mainly pedestrianised area, and is easily accessible by foot bus or train from New Street station. The majority of other hotels in the area are located directly on Broad Street, which can be quite noisy with the drunken hordes clamouring around after about 10pm. Mind you don't get ...
Advantages: Great location as a base to visit this city, well recommended Disadvantages: Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for
and pubs and lots of places to simply sit and people watch.
One of the things I find fascinating is how diverse Europe still is, even after years of the EU and shared media. In mileage, Krakow is not far from Germany but it is a very different place. Whilst there are similarities, you will quickly discern and relish the differences from Prague or Budapest.
Krakow is yet another interesting East European city that really justifies a visit and a weekend break is highly recommended.
Poland lies to the east of Germany, north of the Slovak Republic, south of the Baltic Sea and to the west of Belarus and the Ukraine.
Location and how to get there
Krakow is situated about 290 kilometers south-west from Poland's capital, Warsaw. You can travel by train or road (it is about 1000 miles to drive from London) or you can fly, as I did, to ...
