1. Take yourself up to Kings Park, at the edge of the City, and just behind Mounts Bay Waters Apartments. The park overlooks the city, and you can get a fabulous view, particularly at night time. You can drive through, or if you are feeling energetic, there is a set of steps to the top. The park contains woodlands, wild flowers and neatly manicured lawns.
2. The Oldest Public building in Perth is the Old Courthouse, built in 1836. It is contained within Stirling Gardens.
3. The Western Australia Museum contains items such as Aboriginal rock paintings and weapons. It also contains the Old Gaol, which was built for those convicts in the mid 19th Century.
4. Visit the Royal Mint in the City, where you can watch Gold Bullion being melted down, and they even tell you the value of your own weight in gold!
5. Take a trip to Rottnest...

Advantages: Get to know the fellow Pelicans Disadvantages: Really need some form of transport for the weekends
...Perth is the gateway to Fremantle, and Asia. Although most people venture up to Darwin then over to Bali.
Fremantle is the most spot for the beginning of the yacht race... which Kiwis are pretty good at.
Perth has a wonderful skyline that can be perfect picture material from the other side of the harbour. There is a great big green in the middle of the town, kind of like a mini Central Park. (It might not smack bang in the middle).
When you enter Perth, there is the perfect place to get to know you're fellow Pelican's better. But be careful as they are a bit snappy!
There are a lot of water sport's to do and the shops are great too.
Make sure you take the time to explore this great city before you head off on your travels....

Advantages: easy to walk into town centre from here/beautiful views/very clean Disadvantages: very small pool/sound of traffic most of time.
...We stayed here for a week and found it an excellent place to be as we had never been to Perth before and it was so easy to either walk into the city (10-15 minutes) or hop on a free bus outside. The views from the apartments over the river and local parks and are beautiful. The staff were very helpful and kind and the rooms were well appointed and equipped as well as spotlessly clean. There is a restuarant on site and a few other places nearby but it is so close to town without actually being in it that it is easy to eat anywhere and have a drink then walk back to apartment. It was nice having your own apartment but also having the luxury of a hotel reception. There are two pools on site but they are very small and in fact one did not catch the sun for very long but then we were there to sight see so it did not matter....

Advantages: Beautiful City within a remote and beautiful state. Disadvantages: Long plane journey, but worth it... eventually!
...and tidy city with a great combination of old and new architecture. The view of the city from King's Park is a must. There is plenty to do by day and night and the beaches along the coast are spectacular. I guarantee that you could have a beach entirely to yourself if you drive a few miles north or south of the city. The sun shines bright and hot and the water is cool and clear.
The bush can easily be accessed after a short car journey and you won't need to go out of your way to see the famous Australian wildlife. I went for a round of golf at a course in Rockingham (about half an hour from Perth) and spent the entire time surrounded by literally scores of Kangaroos! There are several wildlife parks where you can stroke Koalas, kangaroos, Emus etc and Pelicans and all manner of brightly coloured birds regularly fly overhead wherever you are...

Cities in Flight is a ground breaking book in the Sci-Fi genre, and unlike anything I've read before.
That's a pretty big opening isn't it?
The version that I picked up was the Sci Fi Masterworks version, meaning that I was expecting a book that... more
