The Fox House Inn, Sheffield

Advantages: Lovely Setting
Disadvantages: Remote

The Fox House Inn is a very well known Public House within the Sheffield area and the sort of place that almost everyone knows where it is even if they have never stepped inside. There is little doubt that it is the remote location of this Pub that has made it such a well-known Landmark. The fact that it is positioned on the junction of two of the main routes into and out of the Peak District National Park may also be a contributing factor, as well as that it has stood on the same spot since the 18th Century. The Fox House Inn stands right on the boundary of the City of Sheffield. Directly across the road and you are not only in the County of Derbyshire but also the Peak District National Park. This is one of the most remote Pubs in Sheffield the highest, standing at the edge of the Moors at 1,132 feet above Sea level. This place ...

Fun for all at Sudbury Hall

Advantages: Fun for all of the family, lovely house, garden and church, close to other stately homes.
Disadvantages: Wont take up a full day, always check house and museum opening arrangements.

I've been visiting Sudbury Hall since I was a child, my parents decided it was a good way to spend an afternoon, and I agree whole-heartedly. If you want to develop a sense of imagination and curiosity in your children then this type of experience is one you should certainly consider. The house was built in the late 1660's by Sir George Vernon, who came to Sudbury through his marriage to Ellen Montgomery, the heiress of the Sudbury estate. It is one of the more modest stately homes, it is much easier to imagine living in it than in a great house like Chatsworth, for example. The red brick hall was designed as a family home, and it still retains that feeling despite the visitors. The interior of the house was featured in the BBC's adaptations of Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre, and it's no wonder considering the lavish, richly ...

Premier Inn, Charing Cross Glasgow

Advantages: Close to town and all amenities
Disadvantages: none

I have never stayed in the Premier Inn before, but I felt I had to share my experience of the past weekend. The staff in both reception and the restaurant were fantastic, they were really helpful and made you feel right at home. The room and bathroom were both spotless, warm and the freeview television meant that my daughter didn't miss her soaps while she was away. The bed was both big and comfortable and we didn't have any trouble getting to sleep. We opted for the breakfast deal and we were not disappointed, the food was well cooked and warm there was also plenty of choice. Access to the hotel was excellent for both able bodied and non-able bodied people, we didn't have a wheelchair but we did have a six month old baby and a pram, and even though it is situated next to Charing Cross rail station we didn't hear a thing from ...
