Have just come back from celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Dublin and stayed for three nights in the Grafton Capital, Lower Stephen`s Street, Dublin 2. Myself and two girlfriends shared an ensuite triple room which consisted of a double and one single bed. It had tv, telephone, trouser press plenty of tea and coffee making facilities and the usual hair-dryer in the bathroom. For those that have used these hairdryers you will know that it's very difficult to style your hair properly though it's adequate for drying. The shower over the bath was quite powerful. The room which was roomy enough had a couple of chairs and dressing table with a large mirror. For those that wear make up use the bathroom mirror as the lighting in the room is not very bright. Stayed at the ClarionHotel & Suites Selby for a week, it was very conveniently situated 100yds from a sub way station which is only a couple of stops from downtown Toronto. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants & shops should you decide to stay locally. It was built in the late 19th century & Ernest Hemmingway stayed there with his wife in the 1920s. The hotel still has that period look about it which won't appeal to everyone. Our room was situated in the basement & had been recently refurbished, the room was clean & quite well equipped with en-suite bathroom with shower/bath. Other facilities include air conditioning, telephone, comforatble queen size bed, iron & iron board, multi channel TV, sitting chairs, wi-fi, hair dryer & ample drawer & wardrobe space. My friend got a great deal for a two night stay here, and having looked around on the net since, I think we were very lucky to get a £75 per night rate. I'm not sure if I'd stay again if it cost any more than that.
There are hundreds of hotels in Dublin, and its so hard to tell if you've picked a good 'un until you arrive. The boom in stag and hen weekends there seems to have given some hoteliers the notion that they can put you up in squalor and charge a fortune for it.. Thankfully, as we saw when we got here, the location is decent (about 5 minutes walking to Grafton St and the same to O'Connell St), and the rooms were clean.
