with a relaxed atmosphere and consequently remains a firm favourite with visitors to the area. **'Please note until the 30th May our reception is being updated and we are cleaning the front of the building. This will not affect your stay in anyway except that you need to enter the hotel on the left of the building rather than through the main entrance** Situated in the heart of beautiful Clifton we are in walking distance of the city centre shops, Park Street?s boutiques, the Waterfront?s bars, and Clifton Village?s restaurants as well as top tourist attractions such as the zoo and Brunel?s suspension bridge. Set in a 19th century neo-classical converted house our rooms are all individually decorated and combine modern decoration with the building?s period character. Our team is here 24 hours a day to look after you and we pride ourselves on our friendly but professional service. All our rooms have radios, sky television and wireless internet facility. Our executive rooms also contain fridges and CD players. Complimentary fresh coffee, tea and fruit are provided in all rooms as well as hot chocolate, hand-baked biscuits and a range of toiletries. For those who drive our parking spaces are invaluable ensuring a stress free end to your journey. We also offer individual day gym membership at both the Clifton College with its Olympic sized swimming pool and the Cannon?s gym at highly discounted rates to make your stay whether for business or leisure as comfortable as possible. Our fabulous restaurant, Racks Wine Bar, set in our converted cellars is one of the most cosmopolitan bars in Bristol providing a place for you to socialise and unwind while enjoying the finest wines and coldest beers. Here you can enjoy our bistro menu either in the restaurant with its rich décor of warm reds and exposed brick, or out on its year round heated patio. Its gourmet breakfast food and welcoming evening atmosphere make it the perfect place to start and finish your day.
Advantages: Beautiful, historic, welcoming, cosmopolitan Disadvantages: Traffic and parking
...is the beautiful and world famous Victorian Clifton Suspension Bridge, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Visitors are able to stroll across the historic bridge, which has become a symbol of Bristol, and take in spectacular views of Clifton Village and the stunning Avon Gorge. You might try afternoon tea at the roof garden of the Avon Gorge Hotel, which provides excellent views of the gorge and the bridge. I particularly love to see the bridge at night when it is beautifully illuminated, or during civic celebrations, when it is often used as the centrepiece for spectacular firework displays.
The SS Great Britain and The Matthew
Bristol is known for its grand Maritme heritage and two very famous ships have made their final home in the city. The SS Great Britain, the world’s first great ocean liner is on permanent display...

Advantages: Well located and pretty cost effective Disadvantages: Busy in the Summer
...miles); the Mall at Cribbs Causeway (3 miles); Bristol Zoo (8miles); Clifton Suspension Bridge (8 miles); Broadmead shopping centre (6 miles); Cardiff Millennium Stadium (45 miles).
We were off to the South West for our Summer Holiday and we needed somewhere to stay on route. The Holiday Inn Express at Bristol North seemed an ideal choice and it was booked simply on the internet for the date we required. As a family of four we needed a room with enough space for the night and hotel facilities to allow us to relax part way through our long journey.
The receptionist informed us that our room was on the ground floor. It was non-smoking (as requested).
OUR ROOM
We went to our room which contained a double bed and a sofa bed as booked. It was clean and welcoming and the beds made properly. There was an open wardrobe with attached...

Advantages: The Best Hotel in Lytham St Annes. Disadvantages: Whoa! is it pricey!
...This Hotel is in the prime position in Lytham. It faces the 2 or so miles of Lytham Green. There are scenic views of the Welsh hills and the Pennines in the distance and views of the Ribble Estuary. Close by is the famous windmill.
The hotel takes its name from the Clifton family. They were the main landowners in the area. There are many references to the Clifton family locally. Their family seat was Lytham Hall. This is open to the public on occasion. It is now owned by an insurance company. (AXA)
The Clifton Arms Hotel was first erected on Clifton Street, in the space that is now Park Street, on or around 1794. This was apparently a coaching inn. Its successor, the current hotel, was built in 1840 on West Beach. In 1875 all buildings comprising the hotel were raised to the same height. Clearly the hotel was built at the height...
