***History of the Clink Prison and museum***
The Clink Prison Museum is located on the original site of the prison built by the Bishop of Winchester between 1107 and 1144. It included both a prison for women and a prison for men. It has been said that the two prisons presented ... ...customers. Life in Clink Prison was apparently harsh. Not only were prisoners beaten, they were tortured brutally with various torture devices. Prisoners who were better off were able to pay the jail keepers money to obtain luxuries such as beds and bed linen and candles - as well as the luxury of less severe punishments. From 1352 onwards, the law permitted creditors to send their debtors to jail, vastly increasing the prison population. This mechanism ...

Advantages: Disadvantages: Not for the whole Family
The Clink Prison museum is built on the exact spot of the original Clink Prison which dated back to the early Tudor years and was open until approximately 1780, and is possibly one of the oldest mens and oldest womens prison in England, and if you are expecting to look at clean yet small cells then you will be pleasantly surprised (or possibly shocked depending upon your nature!). The prison was burnt down twice by rioters at seperate occassions ... ...*****Extras*****
The museum in Clink Street can be booked for private parties with full silver-service banquets which bring a different, yet quite entertaining experience. The Clink Museum features on the London Pass attraction list which brings the price down or admits members for free into this museum, along with many others, to give a whole, fairly priced day out. Advantages: Intriguingly fascinating Disadvantages: not a family day out!!!!!!!!!!
As I wandered London's South Bank I passed the grandeur of the South Bank centre at Waterloo and the Globe Theatre and along the cobbled streets passed the Golden Hind. But then in true Victorian England style I turned a corner and found myself in a different world for under a darkened railway bridge shadows was the entrance to "The Clink" London's Prison Museum. The place was so notorious that the name of parish was virtually changed to "The Clink" ... ...From the first moments the whole style and atmosphere is reminiscent of the London Dungeon and I was expecting pretty much the same thing.
HISTORY
The prison was a medieval prison and underwent many many changes over its life. It was the most important prison in England next to The Tower of London and was close to Southwark Cathedral. The place was notorious and the whole system corrupt and so gaolers were not paid because they fleeced the inmates. ...

Quick review of Clink Prison Museum (London) Review ofClink Prison Museum (London)by
obliqua
We too had a similar experence in the Clink Prison this weekend & my fiance and I were quite disappointed by the experience. I can see they are trying to create the atmosphere but like the earlier review all the info can be found in a history book. I think perhaps having some of the original cells would have helped or more in the way of showing how bad conditions were.... all in all I felt for £5 it was very poor value.
There was a guy and 2 girls asking for a refund as we were leaving but the girl behind the counter was not having it and threatening to call the police,
I wouldn't recommend the place really,
