Spent a long weekend in Dublin with my partner who booked us in at the Clontarf Hotel, an old castle that had been converted to a hotel. It's situated away form the city centre in a rather nice suburb of Dublin close to the waterside. If you haven't got a car with you, you'll need to rely on public transport or taxis. There is a fairly reliable bus service close by & it was keenly priced. The cost was approx £53.00 per night (depending on exchange rate) for a four night stay, one night only can be more costly.

When you enter the hotel it has an impressive lobby, who ever converted it, did a tasteful & professional job. We were quickly checked in & found our rooms comfortable & quite well equipped. It was a hot August weekend & the room had no air conditioning, but of more concern was our dirty bath. We had the remains of the previous person's 'tide mark' left in the bath!! We reported it to the staff & it was quickly cleaned up.

Food at the hotel bar was served on the weekday afternoon we arrived, the place was jam packed (a good sign), food was good, prices reasonable & service was quite good too. We never ate breakfast there as we preferred to eat in the city centre.

On return to our room on the second day, we found that the bed had been made but the bathroom had never been cleaned or tumblers replaced. A word with the staff prompted an immediate clean up & another apology.
On returning to our room on the third night, yes you guessed it, the same again, the same complaints & another immediate clean up & apology from the staff. Apparently they employ foreign workers who cannot speak English & these problems crop up from time to time!! Why don't they make up simple diagrams to help the situation or employ English speaking staff!! Probably because it would cost too much!!

Despite the cleaning problems, the hotel is rather good, when we left we filled in a questionnaire & it was filled with comments about the room cleaning service, or lack of it. The hotel contacted me in writing to apologise & gave me a voucher for one night's accommodation free of charge. I never used it but one of our friends did, they returned with favourable comments & no cleaning problems.

How much did you pay for the room? If you add that info to the review, let me know and I'll re-rate to a VH
