Nine of us set off for some sun in the resort of Kavos, Corfu in May.
On arrival the apartments we stayed in were the newer ones across the road from the reception. These were clean and modern with a patio, balcony, roomy bathroom and the view was just the next door apartments. Very basic but ideal for what we were there for. Don't expect an early night either as the entire resort is still buzzing till dawn and the music can be heard all night. There is other accomodation just out of the resort and with hindsight we may have stayed there instead.
The other apartments nearer to the reception were old and were in need of a little refurbishment but it is a bit of a lottery as to which ones you get.
Every now and then the entire resort smells of sewers due to the dated sewer system which means if you have a No.2 then all the tissue goes in a bin and not down the loo. Surprisingly, you do get used to the smell!Be warned that the Club 18-30 Reps are only interested in your money and will do almost 'anything' to ensure their targets are met. Once you have paid out, the Reps fondness of you goes away to work on the next group. Having been pre warned about this, me and my pals stuck it out a few days. We missed 2 excusions, but we got the rest a about a quarter of the original price. There are about 6-7 excursions a week so missing a couple won't mean you miss out. There is lots to do on the resort. So hold out and DON'T pay out on your first day meeting!
There are a number of places to eat. But we found ourselves going back time and again to 'The British Restaurant' for breakfast and 'Rooftops' for our meals in the evening. Rooftops do the best steaks in town (You can see the grilling from your seat) after trying a number of locations. The amount you recieve ensures you don't need a supper! Sea Bass is another one to try!At first glance. The excursion locations were the less classy venues but once the beer and wine were consumed, the excursions were not too bad and to be fair, the reps work very hard on these nights. Not the thing for anyone wanting a quiet night and expect to be dressed up and be part of the entertainment! The evening at Benizes is good(Especially if they still do the wine tasting first) and driving bumper cars in the basement whilst drunk is quite an experience. Stay away from the local wine. It is VERY strong in alchohol and goes straight through you. The coach ride home can be an experience if you have too much. Stick to Amstel bottled beer! It's cheap, safe and nice!
Like all holidays, make sure you report any accomodation faults straight away. You will end up paying for them!
