For anyone looking to go to Marmaris, the Marmaris Palace is a great base in which to customise to the resort. I would strongly recommend here for first time visitors to Turkey.
The complex has everything you need inside - and as its an all inclusive unit means you dont need to worry about cost when you get there.
Location ------------ Set on the main road route to Icmeler, which is the neighbouring town to Marmaris. Icmeler itself is a lot quieter than Marmaris, has a nicer beach and more suited to couples and less livley families. Marmaris is more lively, great for shopping, has plenty of bars/clubs/resturants - suitable for all but would appeal to youngsters aswell who perhaps would find Icmeler a bit boring. You can get a bus (dolmus) outside the complex which will take you into Icmeler or cross the road for a bus to take you into Marmaris. Either
way the journey will only take about 5-10 mins and will only cost about 40p.
If you preffer you could get a taxi which are always at the hotel for guests to use but it will cost a bit more perhaps around £5-£10.
Facilities -------------
-BARS -
There are several bars within the complex, pool bar, marina bar, lobby bar and more.
Since its All Inclusive, you dont have to pay for your drinks, the kids can waste as much as they like (as they do) and just ask for more.
Make sure you try the local drink Rakki - or some speciality cocktails.
-RESTAURANTS -
There are 4; Outdoor Restaurant: Seats up to 1200 people!! Indoor Restaurant: Seats up to 750 people! Beach Club A'la Carte Restaurant Snack Restaurant
The food in the Marmaris palace is out of this world. They cater for intrnational tastes - but you must try some of the local cusine, Turkey offers delicious mediteranian cusine - you must try local Mezeler (dips) with some gorgeous fresh baked turkish bread - yumm!! Try some seafood dishes, turkish salads, even if you dont like to experiment too much im sure you'll be familliar with the well known turkish kebabs. Since there are 4 places to choose to eat from you can be assured plenty variety, if you decide to try more elegant cusine try A La Carte however it will cost you a bit more.
Traditional Turkish breakfast consits of bread, tomatoes, cucumber, boiled egg, olives, cheese, jam. Can you imagine waking up every morning and being spoiled to all this healthy yet mouth watering food - but if you preffer - you can opt for the more British option of saugsage, toast, egg, beans, traditional fry ups are also available.
Theres plenty of variety for everyone, kids will be catered for also, serving normal chips, pizza, pasta, just about anything you can imagine, they'll have it.
I would advise not to be on a diet before going here because the food is delicious - dont expect to loose any weight!
-ACTIVITIES-
There is so much to do here, they have daytime and evening entertainers. Kids entertainers are great, they will keep the kids entertained all day long and you'll feel theyre in great hands. They run competitions and games during the daytime, you can go playtennis, bingo, beachball, water sports on their own private beach, sunbathe, football, workout in the fitness centre, sauna, turkish bath...there really is so much to do. The complex is also gorgeous if you like to take walks its big enough to stroll around. Of course there is also the pools aswell main pool maybe a bit busy in high season however there are smaller quieter pools.
Nightime enterntainment is well run, they have shows every evening, including traditional Turkish theme nights, classical plays ie Phantom of the opera...they have live music, bands, and when all that finishes or even before it does - you can head off to the hotels own disco. Again theres loads of choice for entertainment - not to forget all the bars if you preffer just a quiet drink with the family.
If all this isnt enough you can of course go out into Marmaris or Icmeler resort where you can find anything traditional Turkish entertainments to British karaoke in the evening. During the day you must take a trip out to the Bazare in marmaris for shopping or even the weekly market in Icmeler or Marmaris so you can grab some turkish bargains.
Other Info ------------- The Marmaris palace has been given numerous awards from various companies for its outstanding service. It is a very large complex, not one for those who like a small & friendly option. It has 246 bungalows and 177 rooms in its main building, holds an overall capacity of 1400 guests - your definetly a number in this hotel but they will make you feel individually special.
I recommend the marmaris palace to anyone going for a first time to Turkey for the reason that it allows you to adapt to the Turkish ways of things. A lot of people tend to be relluctant to go to Turkey for their first time so this lets you sample some traditional turkish food & culture etc without being in the centre of everything having to find your way about whilst wondering how safe it is or what there is to do. The hotel has everything to offer and more. Staff are wonderful, really helpful and friendly, and great with kids. I went to the Marmaris Palace for my first trip to Turkey and ive been back to Turkey about 14 times since - the Marmaris palace set an example. I havent been back only because I dont feel the All inclusive is needed in Marmaris as its so cheap to eat out and I like to sample different cusines etc...if I was to choose All inclusive however I would definetly be going back. For larger families and people who like All inclusive its a superb choice - they well deserve all their awards and their first class holiday village rating as you couldnt get any better.

I was telling another member on here who reviewed Marmaris that I almost went there but was told by a Turkish girl I worked with that its an awful tacky place. I ended up going to a delightful tiny fishing village called Kas myself. I am now intriged to see Marmaris myself though after reading your view and the other reviewers. Good review too full of info.
