Advantages: Sandals in genuinely "All Inclusive", and oozes quality Disadvantages: Jamaica seems festooned with hustlers
I went to Sandals MontegoBay for 2 weeks in August 1997 for my honeymoon. It seemed pricey at first glance (it was about 3400 ukp for us both) but this turned out to be pretty good value for money.
The food was excellent, there were at least 5 restaurants to choose from including a Chinese, an Italian and an A La Carte, all at least four courses. You could also pop along to Sandals Royal Jamaican or Sandals Inn for a change. Sandals Royal Jamaican has an excellent Indonesian restaurant you have to get to in a "traditional" Balinese boat, but it's well worth the effort. All of the staff did their best to give you a good holiday and the activities were enjoyable, though you weren't forced to join in.
The resort is private, some people think this means you miss a lot but we weren't there to soak up the local culture, and I think ...
Advantages: all brilliant Disadvantages: expensive
From my experience at the Turtle BayResort, I would absolutely recommend it to anyone else. My family and I (four of us) stayed in a little cottage at the side of the bay, with two luxurious king sized beds, an outside patio with a table and breath taking views- sunset was the most amazing time of the day. Our whole time there was very pleasant and I throughly enjoyed every second of it. The facilities included a games room and exciting pools, one with a water slide and a large hot tub. The is a poolside bar, which also serves food and then a restaurant and shop within the main hotel. From my point of view it is deffinetly worth the money, and you can be guarenteed a relaxing and refreshing stay at the resort. ...
Advantages: Close to the airport for transfers, Great Food. Disadvantages: Lots of seaweed gets washed up on the beach.
Flight Out:
I used Virgin Atlantic who fly out here. The flying time is 8 hours but, because of the time difference, it was the equivilent to a 4 hour flight (great). Of course this means the opposite coming back. Its 8 hours flying but you have to add 4 hours onto the time. Not so good
Landed:
The resort is within a 10 minute drive of the airport. Once there, the drive with the coconut palm trees gives you the clues that you've well and truely arrived.
All in:
The hotel is fully-inclusive so all the food (even in the 2 specialist food restaurants) is all in, as are MOST drinks. If you want a bottle of 'champers' with a meal, this is extra.
Reception:
The reception staff are helpful and friendly but with any complaints, if you should have any, ask to speak to the manager. The counter is a long one and can cope with quite ...
