Tonga is the first country in the world to see in a New Year. It lies just past the international dateline and became the focal point for the Millenium celebrations of 2000. This is how Tonga first came to my attention, I saw the broadcast from the isalnd and thought it looked fantastic and decided that I would definitely go. I happened to have the chance to go to New Caledonia and looking at a map saw that nTonga was nearby (relatively speaking). So wehn my two weeks in New Caledonia was over my girlfriend and I decided to make the short flight to Tonga and stay for as long as our money would hold out. We weren't disappointed!
GETTING THERE
We flew with Air France from New Caledonia to Fua'amotu International Airport which is about 10 miles away from the capital of Nuku'alofa. This flight cost about $150 for the round trip. There ...

Club Eurocalas is part of the THB hotel group and is situated approximately 600 metres from the resort centre at Calas de Mallorca on the islands eastern coast.
The complex is an Airtours "suncentre" and boasts a host of amenities in keeping with its 3A rating. Several pools, tennis and football courts, amusements, nightly entertainment and 2 bars together with a basement restaurant are featured here.
My wife and I were taken to the Eurocalas as part of an "allocate on arrival" cheap deal arranged through the "Late Escapes" arm of Airtours. This was a 25th anniversary treat for us and I was a little sceptical at first, due to the cost of the holiday and because the original room allocated to us had clearly not been serviced.
However we were swiftly moved to an alternative suite which was nicely decorated, spacious ...
Advantages: Short flight, English widely spoken, beautiful beaches, great nightlife, I could go on forever Disadvantages: You have to come home
of the busy nightlife in the area, which was just getting started by the way. The beach at Magalluf/Palma Nova was fantastic. It was quiet in the mornings though and it was not unusual to find people who had fallen asleep on the beach the night before. The beach did get busy in the afternoon but, because of its size, it didn't seem too crowded. There are many bars and nightclubs in Magalluf and lots of club promoting, i.e. being hassled by people to go to a certain club, bar etc but we tended to go for a stroll along the peaceful promenade in the evening and sit looking at the sea.
Both of my experiences of Majorca were totally different. I loved both sides. There is something for everyone and I would urge anyone travelling there to make the most of all of it, hire a car and see the real Majorca! ...

Club Tonga is found in the heart of Can Picafort, a popular town in the north east of the Island and close to one of the longest, golden beaches on the island. At the Tonga the accommodation is simple, clean and comfortable, with mostrooms having a sea view. In the evenings, there is seasonal nightly entertainment for families as well as the bars and restaurants of central Can Picafort.
