I have been visiting Malta since I was three months old, usually staying at Bugibba Holiday Complex.
Me and my family stayed at the Coastline in December 2006 because we got an upgrade over Christmas as Bugibba Holiday Complex was not available.
I have to say I was amazed at the difference between the two hotels. We got a great service at the Bugibba, but it was fantastic at the Coastline, although I have to say the room we got was smaller than I'm used to as we normally stay in apartment rooms with kitchenettes.
However, the food was glorious and the service was excellent and I also felt more at home there as some of the waiters I knew were working there while the Holiday Complex was being refurbished!
Although it is in a hilly location, it's easy to get to wherever you want to go as there's a free mini bus that takes you into Bugibba and at the bottom of the huge drive there are two bus stops right outside the hotel.
Although we didn't have a sea view room, from the dining room you have an excellent view of the coast.
The only problem I found was that I couldn't find the games room unfortunately!
The cleaning service was fabulous and your sheets got changed every other day and if you wanted anything all you had to do was ask and it would be there almost immediately. Also when I had a problem carrying my tray, taking drinks up to the hotel room one of the managers helped me! Although this was after I had made an idiot of myself spilling the drinks on the first tray! But the Manager for that evening simply took my tray and got new drinks for me and even carried the tray to my room for me!
In all, the Coastline definitely deserves its 4* rating as it is an absolute delight to go to and when I have enough money I will definitely be going there again!
Advantages: accommodating for large families, indoor pool nice and quiet, modern Disadvantages: right on a main busy road, not many amenities close-by like small shop etc
distance of you while having a coffee with a few games in, pool table etc.
Entertainment
The hotel does have evening entertainment but i maybe more for the hard of hearing on some evenings and on others ok, maybe this was because of the time of year but i'm not sure.
To be honest though most evenings we went for a walk after our evening meal down to bugibba or along the coastline anyway.
The pathways outside the hotel are very small but they do open up further along but it is a busy road.
The staff
We found on the whole the staff were helpful to accommodate us all. The restaurant staff were polite and helpful. The barstaff could do with smiling more often, but in particular there was an older barman who has been there for years, he appears to be very grumpy to begin with but as the week wears on he is actually quite funny ...
Advantages: Interesting island, something for everyone. Disadvantages: Bumpy roads!
of the island near the ferry to Gozo is Ramla Bay, somewhere if you like peace and quiet. Mellieha is a small town with a sandy beach. The hotels are on the outskirts of the town and a walk along the beach is lovely, but the climb up the hill gets the heart pumping! St Pauls's Bay where according to the Acts of the Apostles, Paul was shipwrecked, is a busy tourist area and the resort stretches over 3 miles. It has joined up with Bugibba, which used to be a separate village, busy nightlife in this area. Qawra, pronounced our- ra, is another village, which has become a popular tourist spot and is slightly quieter than Bugibba. Continuing along the coast is Salina Bay, which was the first place we stayed, named for the Salt pans, the Coastlinehotel looks across the bay towards Qawra, unfortunately, there are stretches without pavements and the road ...
