Advantages: great place, very near Miami Disadvantages: none
...This party Key is located just off the Grove- CoconutGrove to those not in the know. It's not actually attached to the rest of the key chain. It lies right off the coolest area in South Miami and is accessable by the Bay Bridge (over Biscayne Bay).
If you're headed out that way, stop off at the Planetarium or the Museum of Science by the Miami side of the bridge. Viscaya, a European-style stately home, is also in that area. All are certainly worth visiting. There's also great shopping at the Bayside complex.
On the other side of the bridge is the seaquarium. And, of course, miles of sandy beaches with permanant grills set up all over the place. The weather is always hot there and there's an excellent breeze off the water. It's a young person's hang-out, so there's always lots to do and look at!...

...I lived in the Miami area for 50 years. I am sorry to say that it is not the safe place it use to be. BE CAREFUL!! there is alot of petty crime. The "window washers" on the corners may have a rock in their hands under the cloth to break your window & take the jewelry off you.
Parking is expensive & it is not very safe. There is alot to do & see, but remember you are in a BIG CITY that has a very large Hispanic
population. "se habla Espanol"
On the plus side. Bayside in downtown Miami is a great palce to shop.
CoconutGrove is full of many resturants & small botiques to shop in. South Beach is the "In" place now....

Advantages: beautiful beaches, gloriously unspoilt in parts Disadvantages: "all-inclusive" culture, unlovely capital
...'re not chowing down each night on the all-inclusive "Caribbean-style" buffet, you can get out and experience the real thing. Try Cocos, a charming restaurant jutting out over Jolly Harbour , where the setting is romantic and the food is excellent. CoconutGrove is great for seafood (big breakfasts and cheap lunches!), and Papa Zouk's is about the only thing worth visiting St John (Antigua's rather gritty capital) for - a rum shop vibe, funky music, and delicious, reasonably priced seafood. Try the Carnival Platter and the stuffed clams - excellent.
Great places to stay? The Inn at English Harbour is very pretty, though not cheap - genteel, colonial country house vibe. Also pricey but fabulous is Carlisle Bay - basically a boutique hotel on the beach. We stayed here in July, and it's hard to put your finger on what makes it so wonderful...
