Claudette Colbert plays Ellie, a spoilt heiress whose father holds her prisoner on the family yacht, to try and prevent her marriage to King Westley (Jameson Thomas)who is only after her for her money. She escapes by swimming ashore, determined to rejoin Westley across the other side of the country. With very little money to her name she is forced into taking the bus where she meets up with cynical reporter Clark Gable. He recognises the rich runaway and realises that he is onto a good story. The battling of the two stars is hilarious as they each rub the other up the wrong way. In typical screwball comedy style the spoilt little rich girl learns the true value of money.

An extremely witty,well paced comedy which looks good today.
The story is set in Paris where Colbert is a struggling showgirl.
Wealthy Barrymore believes gigilo Lederer is paying too much attention to his wife Astor,so he hires Colbert to keep Lederer occupied.
Ameche plays a taxi driver in love with Colbert.
When they all go to Barrymore's chateau in Versailles,Colbert is constantly in danger of being exposed.
The plot is further complicated when Ameche arrives posing as her husband.
A superb 30's romantic comedy that should be in everyone's must have lists.A masterpeice!
