I have been to the colina Mar 3 times now, so it must be good. Here are some of the good, bad and ugly things about the hotel and area.
I love going on holiday to warm places and Grand Canaria is just the place, only 4.5hr on the plane a 45min transfer to Puerto Rico. I was first attracted to Colina Mar as the price was fantastic only £500 for 2 Weeks Self Catering. There are so many nice places to eat and the food is really cheep.
Location Puerto Rico is in a valley, both sides are filled with hotels. Not a goog location for anyone who has trouble walking. Colina Mar is places on the top of the right side as you look out to sea. This gives fantastic views of the beach, main shopping Cnt. Not all rooms have a good view, the best rooms to request are 217-224, 117-124, 225-232 and 125-132. With the hotel being at the top of the hill it is very close to the smaller Shopping cnt (Europa) this is alot smaller than the one at the bottom but nice. There is no one trying to get you in bars a good selection of food. There is a Taxi stop and a bus stop right out side the hotel and shopping cnt. Taxi down to Pureto Rico were about 3.50 euro including tip, and the bus was 85 cents each. It leaves almost every 1/2 hr and takes you down to Puerto rico or down to Amadores (the best beach ever with imported sand) Stand on the saide as the hotel to go to Amadores or the other side for Pureto rico. Time table in reception.
Hotel
2 Pools, both with pool bars serving snacks. The food from the bar was better at the smaller pool. The larger pool seemed to be where all the children went. Both play music and have toilets. They are cleaned every day. Watch out for brocken sun beds. The entertainment was something I went back for however in Oct 2006 it was very poor, just bingo really. However they change the entertainment manager every year so 2007 might be better. There was a daily program for children, it must of been good lots took part. The rooms were basic however had everything we needed. We always had meals out so never had to cook. Safe, TV, Storage and average size balcony. Cleaned about 5 times a week. For the price it has always been worth the money. The people on reception would always help with anything even just advice.
Food Averege price for a cooked breakfast with a drink was about 4 euro. I alway tend to choose english restaurants so you know that the food will be cooked how your used to. For a main meal with a drink it was about 7 euros. These prices are Europa Prices you will pay a bit more down in the main cnt of Puerto Rico. I loved the specials board at Flicks the staff were really nice. They would cook what ever you wanted. On the board was Sunday Lunch, Roast Chicken.
Beach
I like Amadores beach the best it was 7 euro for 2 sun beds and a brolly. There is plans to build a small shopping cnt here but at the moment there is about 10 shops and 10 restaurants just enough I think, go to www.playa.amadores.com to see how nice it really is. They are building a mini golf, they have an inflatable fun area in the water and peddle boats. You can fish off the rocks too. Really clean really safe really nice.
Local Trips.
I always take a trip to Puerto Mogan, a really nice fishingvillage with a market on Friday's. The ferry is 9 eurosreturn well worth it a really nice place to visit. You can also go to Arguineuin this has a market on Tues/Thur same price just not as nice. If you get the 1030 ferry they take you out to see the dolphin's, and yes you really do see some.
Over all Colina Mar gets 8/10 from me, this is really what I would expect for the price of £500 for 2 weeks. I have never paid more than this. I always have a good time at this hotel.
