Hey there. I am new here; active at ciao-germany though. I am expressing my experiences at ciao.uk, cos i just wanna keep my english up to date. I used to live in America. Speaking German all the times makes me forgetting the english language. So I hope it didnt get so bad.
Well, Cologne is the city where i live at. I dont know why they put this picture for that "product", because the most important and popular part is the center of cologne. In the middle of the center, there is the hugest cathedral all over the world - the cologne cathedral. They started to build it in 1248 and it lasted more than 600 years to finish building it up. It is impressive when you look up the cathedral. Imagine how many Japanese people are running around there and taking pictures. That really cracks me up. Inside the cathedral there are the corpses of the three kings who brought this stuff to Jesus (i dont know what it is called in english). They were put in a golden box. Cologne stole them while the Cologne-Mailand war in the middle ages...
If you are not interested in the cathedral i give you some other facts about Cologne. More than 1.000.000 Million people live in my city, which is the fourth biggest in Germany. We got one 1st division soccer club (1.FC Köln) and one of the best icehockey teams all over the world (Kölner Haie/Cologne Sharks). The icehockey club have their matches in the Colognearena which is the biggest Arena in Europe. 19.000 people can take seat in there. We also get a new soccer stadium. Instead of 45.000, 60.000 fans will be able to support our soccer club next year.
We also got a historic promenade next to the rhine, which was rebuilt after the 2nd world war. It is the best place to have some Kölsch (Beer from cologne). The last thing i want to tell you, is that Cologne is called the "Hollywood of Europe", because it is the biggest Mediacentrum in Europe. Also scenes out of the James Bond Movies were made in Cologne. We have like more that 10 TV Stations and more than 15 Radio Stadions over here.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Simon
