Enjoy Cologne
Advantages: Close to Cologne Cathedral and shopping areas Disadvantages: Breakfast expensive 14 euros per person per day
We booked this hotel throuigh accorhotels.com and it certainly wasn't expensive for the class of hotel. We drove through France to Cologne and found the hotel easily, because it is on a main road. There is a public car park under the hotel which costs 10 euros per day or 1.50 euros per hour, so it could work out expensive if you took the car in and out. We found no reason to take the car anywhere, becauae verything we wanted was within a short walk. ... ...receptionist who spoke extremely good english. She gave us the choice of a smoking or non smoking room, offered us a tourist map and asked if we needed any information about Cologne. The room was very nice, with air conditioning , internet connection, min bar, room service, television, a supply of shampoo etc, towels and a view over the outside bar area. There was a little packet of Haribo sweets on each of the twin beds, which was a nice little ...

Eat, drink and suffer in comfy Bonn surroundings
Advantages: Nice internal surroundings, friendly staff, good food, reasonable prices Disadvantages: In the middle of nowhere unless you need the airport
...was two nights in the Holiday Inn at Bonn/Cologne Airport, situated on a busy dual carriageway, totally inaccessible by foot. The reception area was remnant of many four star hotels in the UK, and the seating areas, public facilities and corridors were modern, clean and well signposted (in a couple of languages including English), everything, as I have come to expect from our German friends was well maintained. The reception area information racks ... ...were free German newspapers, ice supply and shoe cleaners on every floor.
THE ROOMS
The rooms themselves were superb. Warm, and very spacious with two double beds, and as you would expect were en-suite, with bath and shower. The room did have a remote controlled TV with limited english TV channels and a mini-bar. Arriving at the hotel, equipped with a small jar of Gold-Blend, I discovered (shock, horror) that there was no kettle in the room. I ...

GOOD HOTEL FOR GREAT CITY
Advantages: Superior comfort compared to most Disadvantages: A little on the expensive side
Stayed at the Hotel for 5 days/4 nights at the end of May/beginning of June, have stayed in various 5* hotels around European cities and this was up in the top list. Very pleasant stay, all the staff always had a smile and welcome and were very helpful if we needed any queries answering. Breakfast was ample, plenty of choice, the bar area is very nice, though after a business meeting/forum during one day of our stay it was heaving all night, think ... ...day. Rooms were spacious, we had a King Bed superior which even with an extra bed for our 8 year old son we still had plenty of room. For the shopaholics amongst you the main shopping area is a not far walk from the hotel, so plenty of eateries available nearby, or turn left out of the hotel and go towards the Rhine and a mass of eating emporiums await you in that area as well. There is still some building work going on outside the hotel but no noise ...

Fabulous 4* Fun - Free Chocolate Included
Advantages: Chocolates on the pillow! Disadvantages: Full of the traveling English on coach trips to the Xmas markets.
...in Cologne in the 4* Novotel on the banks of the Rhine. We booked in September for travel in December, and paid only €250 (which was £177 on the date we checked in) for the three nights. This price included a breakfast each morning, which would otherwise have cost €15 each. Two breakfasts per day for 3 days is €90, so for the room only price we're down to €160. I booked through Quidco, using the Novotel own website (they have a best price guarantee) ... ...write letters on the complimentary Novotel writing paper if we wished, and a weird wardrobe thing that didn't have doors or a top, but was just some rails concealed behind some pieces of wood. The overall décor was very clean, slightly Ikea-style, plain and minimalist, and I liked it a lot. The only thing I would change would be the picture over the desk which I kept going to thinking it was a mirror (the mirror was further up near the non-wardrobe). ...

Better than you may think
Advantages: City Centre Disadvantages: None
15 miles from the airport, central to city and the metro/bus stop is just a couple of minutes away. A 10 minute stroll will get you to the river. Very good for location, situated in a back street close to the ring road so very quiet. You might miss it if you were not looking for it. Very clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Room facilties very good the only problem is that there are not tea/coffee making opportunites. They have a seperate ... ...main street. Again lots of bars locally, and recommend the local beer (lager) Kolsch of which there are many different varietys.
Room prices are not that cheap, but well worth it. (99 Euros or £66 appx as at Feb 2006
Plenty of good restaurants from Asian to Turkish, I would suggest you try Farmers Restaurant if you like Steak they do a very good "kleine salat" (Small salad that is not so small) ...
