...in Cologne in the 4* Novotel on the banks of the Rhine. We booked in September for travel in December, and paid only €250 (which was £177 on the date we checked in) for the three nights. This price included a breakfast each morning, which would otherwise have cost €15 each. Two breakfasts per day for 3 days is €90, so for the room only price we're down to €160. I booked through Quidco, using the Novotel own website (they have a best price guarantee) ...
...write letters on the complimentary Novotel writing paper if we wished, and a weird wardrobe thing that didn't have doors or a top, but was just some rails concealed behind some pieces of wood. The overall décor was very clean, slightly Ikea-style, plain and minimalist, and I liked it a lot. WHY DID WE BOOK THE HOTEL VIKTORIA - COLOGNE? Disadvantages: Small shower, main entrance obscurely placed

In a very pleasant old style part of Cologne lies the Hotel Caprice. Although the entrance is in an odd place to get to from the main road from the Railway station (by the Catheadral) it does not take a great deal of genious to find it when following the intructions given when we booked. Our purpose in Cologne was simply to relax with the scenery and enjoy a sample of German-style life. The hotel on first site was moderately pleasing from the outside, ...

(We only encountered one member of the reception staff unable to speak fluent English - appropriately he worked through the night !). Disadvantages: A little bit far out (but not too much!)

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Cologne for three nights over Christmas and had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing experience. The pros:- The staff at the hotel were incredibly friendly and we were able to check in around three hours prior to the official check in time as our flight arrived early morning. In fact throughout our stay the staff couldn't have done more for us - from the maid to the reception; the restaurant to the bar everybod was wonderful. ...
...so I was expecting a high standard. I've stayed at a number of four and five stars over the last few years and this ranked alongside them. It is quite a large hotel with two restaurants, a bar and leisure area. There are a considerable number of standard rooms, a few suites and a presidential suite. What can I say this is a lovely hotel from start to finish. The location cannot be beat, the dom cathedral is just outside the front door. The hotel looks great from the outside also. Check in was easy and the staff were very welcoming. Once checked in our we were shown to our room and the luggage taken there. We were shown how to work things etc which was very useful. Room was lovely a good size with king size bed, sitting area, desk, flat screen ...
...the power shower very good. Our room overlooked the fruh bar and restaurant and although it got very busy outside we were never bothered by the noise. Hardly heard the bells from the cathedral either. Room service was good value and very nice. Arrived quickly as did the request for a bucket of ice.
