Also try the sweet dessert soups which normally have egg yolk , chestnut and sago.
The decor in the restaurant will make you think you'll in the colonial era.
Singapore Sling is also served within the restaurant. ...

With Raffles' accommodation being out of our budget we decided to have lunch there instead in the Tiffin room. Being careful to conform with the dress code(no shorts, no open sandals for men etc) we arrived by taxi and were ushered in by some very impressively dressed footmen. Tiffin lunch consists of a vast array of curries served buffet style plus some mouth watering desserts. We thought it was excellent value at about £15 per head and half price ...

Advantages: Rough semblence of the past Disadvantages: Was it ever like that???
...remember all the pictures of colonial houses and buildings through old photographs, old black and white photographs. I can't even try and imagine them in colour. There has beena restoration of old shophouses along the waterfront for some time now, and I sometimes wonder, as I pass them, on the accuracy of the restoration. Was the red always such a rich shade, or was it always faded like that run down by time. It's hard to imagine one's past when ...

Advantages: great variety, great prices, and entertainment, and good scenery of the waterfront Disadvantages: crowded, very crowded on friday and saturday nights
Singapore Chinatown is the heart of old colonialSingapore. When the traders first cam ashore to Singapore, this was where they settled to do business with other traders, on the riverbank. Now you can see the old shophouses as they have stood for almost two centuries. They used to be old and faded, but recently, with the government taking a push for tourism, they have abolished trade from the river and taken the step of cleaning the river up. Now, instead of old polluted and smelly waters, the water is somewhat cleaner. As clean as the murky dirty green colour of the sea water around Singapore gets, anyway. Also, one can see the new restored shophouses along the waterfront, restored to their former beauty. Although sometimes I do wonder if the colours were so bright in their time. Boat Quay has been turned into a trendy nightspot ...

put off by any thoughts of a summer heat-wave. Singapore is practically on the equator, so the heat is equally oppressive all the year round.
We didn't take tiffin or even sip a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel. Named after Sir Stamford Raffles, the leading light in the development of British Singapore in the early 19th century, the hotel is something of an institution. We went past it at night, and admired its white-painted colonial frontage basking in the glow of the floodlights, but we were in a hurry and never stepped inside. Possibly, it's an inimitably stylish grand hotel experience. Equally possibly, it's a fancy over-priced rip-off. Perhaps it's both. To find out, I'd have to go back another time.
Finally, we didn't explore the northern fringes of Singapore Island, nor did we attempt to cross the over ...
