A must visit when you go to Singapore is the Raffles Hotel. If you are loaded you may actually like to stay in one of the classic colonial rooms, however, if you aren't in the money like me then just visit the long bar. In the long bar you can sip delicious Singapore Slings ( at about £7 a glass) and eat monkey nuts to your hearts content. The long bar is the only place in Singapore where you are allowed to 'litter' so the tradition is to eat monkey nuts and throw the shells on the floor! Beware Singapore Slings are much more alcoholic than they taste! Remember to look about the hotel before you get too drunk, there is a museum in the hotel and the history about Raffles is everywhere. The cricket club is another very British institution still evident in Singapore. A good hotel to stay in close to the colonial area is the Westin - it's very tall providing fantastic views and the rooms are really spacious. Like most things in Singapore it's also quite expensive.
