Cathedral of St. Mary Major and the Colosseum, near the main train station Termini and the Domus Aurea. The nearest metro stop ("Cavour") is at three minutes walking distance and the Opera House is about 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel. The hotel is located on one of the highest points of the Esquilino Hill and thanks to it's very pleasent terrace it has a wonderful panoramic view of 360° of all Rome and environs. At the reception desk it is possible to have all information regarding sightseeing tours, taxi and bus; car, bike and scooter rental. The common areas of the hotel have WIFI Internet connection and the hotel has convention possibilities with its 2 meeting rooms, a luggage deposit and a parking near the hotel.
Advantages: Centrally based on via del corso Disadvantages: none to speak of
...We stayed at the Hotel Regno for a weekend and were very satisified with everything the hotel offered. Everything was booked directly with the hotel through the internet without any problems. They arranged private transfer to and from airport. The rooms are well appointed and very comfortable. Food is of basic standard but we ate out all the time so that didn't matter. Hotel has a roof terrace with great views. As it is on one of the main roads it can be a bit noisy but nothing off putting.
5 minutes walk to Trevi fountain, 10 minutes to forum and Colosseum. Lots of restaurants close by.
I would recommend it to anyone wanting a reasonably priced place to stay in centre of Rome....

Advantages: continental breakfast; outdoors swimming pool Disadvantages: THE ENTIRE HOTEL BADLY NEEDS RESTORATION, REFURBISHING & SANITATION!
...I stayed at Summit from 14th to 16th May 2008. Location is TRAGIC. It is not in Rome, franklly speaking, it is hardly in Rome. Rather in some village. It takes 3 (THREE) hours to walk from Colosseum (and other places of interest) to Summit. Going by bus will hardly help as the bus runs once per hour. The place itself is easily recognizable by a smell of horseshit. There are marks of water on the walls and ceilings in all parts of the hotel. And it smells some past flood. The only advantage could be the swimming pool - but I saw no one there. The breakfast is served only from 7 am - even if we had to leave to Rome for the forum and conference (which, thank God, was not held at "Summit") at 7:45 already. The food is good but standard (the sausage, omelette, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, juice, coffee, pastries). The reception demands 100 EUR...

...No visit to Rome is completed without seeing the Colosseum, a symbol of both the modern and ancient Rome. It was build for horse racing circuit and gladiatorial battles, one of the most important entertainments in the Roman Empire. Each door to the Colosseum has a roman numeral carved on it and people from different communities of the society were assigned different numbers. There is also an entrance with no numeral which was only used by the Emperor. According to our tour guide, with the system of seating, they managed to have all spectators at their seat within half an hour-how amazing is that-even in modern days, it takes longer to have all audience seated in a short period of time. As for those Bruce Lee fans, just want to make you aware that the Colosseum is also the place where the last fighting scene of one of his movies...

Amazing position. Its only a few meters away from piazza di Spagna - perhaps Italy's most famous piazza. Girls will love visiting the numerous boutiques of via Condotti. Its strategic position makes it the perfect accommodation if in Rome for the first... more
