The first time we chose to stay in this particular hotel (a couple of years ago) was because it was ideally situated for our purposes. We were traveling to Poland after flying to Franfurt/Hahn airport and it was a convenient distance to split our journey, and at a very competitive price.
We must have been pretty satisfied with it as when we were planning a tour of Germany in September, we had no hesitation in using this hotel again.
The hotel is located in a peaceful setting on the edge of farmland about half a mile from the Eisenach East junction
on the A4 autobahn. It's very easy to find as it's well signposted from the exit ramp. On a quiet road, it is around a quarter of a mile or so from a shopping mall with a good selection of bars and restaurants.
The reception area was welcoming enough and the bar and bistro were adjacent. I wouldn't say the staff were particularly multi-lingual, but with my best phrase-book style German and her slightly better English, we didn't have any major problems understanding one another. I can't say the same about finding our room though. The hotel is a traditional motel-style affair with a combination of three, 2 or 3 storey buildings around a courtyard. The trouble was that there were no room numbers on the outside of the buildings and consequently there was no way of knowing which building our room was in. Surprise, surprise. Our room was at the end of the last corridor of the last building we looked in.
The room was decorated in pastel shades with beechwood furniture and finishings. The decor seemed recently done and everything was fresh and clean. There were two firm and comfortable twin beds with crisp, white linen, a large desk and chair, a bench seat and a wardrobe which also had plenty of drawer space. On the electrical appliance front, we had sat-TV with a couple of English language channels, a clock/radio and a hairdryer but NO coffee-maker. (I hate that!) The room was very spacious as the beds were placed on opposite walls and there was a massive gap between them. (This is handy if you are sharing the room with a virtual stranger and don't want to be too close, but it's not exactly conducive to romantic snuggles with your significant other. It's not much good for unromantic snuggles with that virtual stranger either, come to think of it. Anyway, that's all academic as the situation didn't...ahem, arise.)
On to the bathroom. A bit of a misnomer here - there was a room, but no bath. The 'shower-room' was immaculate, completely tiled with a well-lit vanity area and plenty of towels. The shower was in fact on a slightly raised area with a glass screen to keep the rest of the room dry - an optimistic, if somewhat erroneous concept. Toiletries were confined to a soap and shampoo dispenser at the wash-basin and another in the shower area.
The amenities of the hotel pretty much consisted of a bar and bistro. We didn't try the bistro and the bar was nothing special but I did partake of a libation there. You can read a review of that episode here.
Breakfast is included in the price and consisted of a hearty German buffet with hot sausages and eggs, cold meats and cheeses - cereals, breads and pastries. With ice-cold juices and piping hot coffee we were set up for the rest of the morning.
In conclusion, the first time we used this hotel, all we were looking for was a clean, comfortable, inexpensive hotel that was easy to find and had good access to the autobahn for our long journey the following morning. The Comfort Hotel Eisenach fulfilled all those requirements perfectly. I reckoned that I wouldn't hesitate to use this hotel if I was ever in that part of the world again. How prophetic. This time round, we stayed for two nights and did the 'tourist' thing in Eisenach and the surrounding area. The hotel is conveniently located, just a couple of miles from the old town, and within easy reach of the many attractions in the area. More of which at a later date.
sure travellers. All our comfortable rooms are equipped with bathroom, workdesk, satellite TV, telephone, computer and fax connection. In front of the hotel you find a camera...
