A stone’s throw away from the Empire State Building, rests a hotel that I found to be a pleasant surprise. It may not be ultra-fancy. It may not be ultra-chic, but it has quite a few notable qualities.
One is security. A very able-bodied doorman checks guests for a cardkey before allowing them to enter the building. He also chases riff-raff (in the wee hours of the morning) away from the building. Obvious video cameras keep a watchful eye on hallways and elevator doors.
A courteous staff will help you in any way they can. I walked into this hotel, off the street, for the first time, without a reservation. (I recommend doing this---NEVER. It is very risky business. In this case it worked out. Also, you pay a higher price). The staff took great pains to explain the amenities and stressed the continental breakfast the next morning.
Their standard guestroom is spacious. My room contained a Queen-size bed, two nightstands, large bureau, TV, lovely Victorian sofa and cocktail table with room to spare. The room was very clean. The COMFORT INN, when booked in advance, rents for a fair price.
Would I stay again? You bet’cha.
