How about a stay duing the GREAT BLACKOUT!
Advantages Near to Macy's and Empire State Building
Disadvantages No good views of NY from rooms
Yes, 2 hours after arriving in New York while we were happily shopping away at a great Macy's sell all the lights in NY went out!!!!
Fortunately, we were staying at a hotel that really looked after their clients! The service during this difficult 2 days was above and beyond the call of duty. There was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that the staff could have done to make it any easier. They kept us very well informed of the progress of electricity going on in the city (even sending us to where they knew places could serve us food in AC), provided bottles of water in the hot weather and iced flannels to help cool us off. Now, once the electricity was back on, the wonderful service continued. The desk staff were so informative and really worked hard to make your stay a good one. The desk staff booked us a helicopter tour (which was an amazing experience), gave us VERY detailed information on where to tour and how to get there and then booked our taxi to take us back to the airport. Shockingly, while waiting for our taxi to arrive a limousine arrived and it ended up being OUR taxi. We arrived in style to the airport! People thought we were famous!

Small but very nice! It is decorated in the classical style that gives a very good first impression. It was all clean and shiny and made me glad to have booked it.
Room:The room was very clean. When the electricity went back on, the cleaning staff were in VERY quickly to get everything back up to standard.
Views:Cost:
It was about $150 or £80 per night for 2 adults.
Before we arrived, I emailed them about a few things I wanted to clear up and know for the 2nd leg of our trip. They were quickly to respond and very friendly in their information.
In the end, we were very pleased to have chosen this hotel. Many more expensive hotels had their clients sleeping in the streets during the blackout! After the blackout it continued to shine in it's service and quality.I definately would recommend this hotel!
