Advantages: great location, friendly, staff and clean Disadvantages: dark, slightly dingy rooms
...The ComfortInn, Manhattan.
I travel quite a bit on business and always bid for my hotel rooms online. I’ve never been disappointed with the results of my bidding, but last December, ‘naming my price’ got me the ComfortInn, Manhattan, which was quite 'ho-hum'.
Starting with location, this hotel is perfectly appointed for those indulging in serious retail therapy as it is just around the corner from Macy’s and near 5th Avenue. It’s also close to all the touristy sights like the Empire State Building, and there’s a subway entrance at the bottom of the block.
This location didn’t work for me personally as I prefer to get away from the crowds but you don't always get what you want when you bid on your rooms. I would recommend that if you’ve already been to New York and you’ve done all the tourist stuff, try and get out of 'Midtown...

Advantages: location, location, location Disadvantages: not as luxurious as some might prefer
...Located in an ideal location in Midtown Manhattan (W.33rd Street between 5th Avenue and Broadway), The Wolcott is a perfect base for a first trip to Manhattan, only blocks away from Macy's, the Empire State Building and the New York Library.
Although not the most luxurious of hotels, the rooms are comfortable and provide what is needed for those on a budget, or those who would prefer to spend their money in Bloomingdales! Each room comes with ensuite bathroom, TV, telephone and air conditioning.
For guests who are feeling fit after a day's shopping, the hotel also has a small but adequate fitness center. For the rest of us, there are vending machines for late-night drinks and snacks, located in the basement!...

...Although the hotel is situated in one of the best locations in New YorkCity (it is a couple of blocks away from the centre of Times Square), it lacks a little quality. The restaurant facilities are not up to much, especially breakfast-wise and the rooms are nothing special. However, it is better than most hotels in New York and the location does more than make up for the slight lack of quality. The hotel is situated in a midtown location which is ideal for shopping and seeing most of the NYC sites....

The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
