Skiing in MontTremblant this year was the best skiing holiday I have ever had. The snow is perfect, particularly in the morning. By afternoon there tends to be some icy patches. The main difference between MontTremblant and any other European ski resort is the cold.. And it is very cold. Minus 20 degrees Celsius and there are not many brass monkeys around!
So to the village of MontTremblant. It is strange really because it is like being in Disneyland. This is because all the houses are painted in bright colours and the main streets are all pedestrianised. Add this to the fact that everyone is on holiday and you get the disneyesque feeling. After spending the last few weeks travelling the south of france in a motorhome, i thought i would share some of my experiences with you lucky lot and not least because i recieved the credit card bill through the post today!
The journey into Monte Carlo is quite unimpressive, very industrial and stark contrast to the picturesque landscapes surrounding Monte Carlo. You get the first taste of its financial implications by the increased frequency of the tolls upon its approach. It seemed like there was a toll booth on the roads every 10 mins as opposed to the every couple of hours we had experienced around Provence.

Marisa Monte comes from a classical music background having studied to be an opera singer in early adolescence and later taking her entrance exam for the National Music School in Brazil. Later she was to become influenced by early 1980s Brazilian rock and the samba rhythms of Rio de Janeiro, in particular the sounds of the Portela samba school. This is one reason why there is possibly more diversity to Marisa's music than many of her contemporary MPB artists. During the course of her musical career Marisa has worked with artists as diverse as Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, David Byrne, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Julieta Venegas. She has also recorded songs by Marvin Gaye and Lou Reed.
