Good central location and a fair price at the Comfort Inn.

Advantages: Located next to New Street Station, Helpful staff, Nice rooms, Close to shopping centres
Disadvantages: None.

I have stayed in this hotel a few times when I have needed to be in Birmingham for events at the NEC. The hotel is more or less next door to New Street Station. In fact when you exit the station you can see the sign for the hotel over the wall on your right, and there is access via a stairway onto Station street which takes you more or less outside the door. The other alternative (maybe if you have a lot of luggage) is to walk around which is probably a five minute walk, maximum depending on your speed etc. The check-in process for me has always been trouble free. I usually make my booking through Active Hotels as it tends to be quite a bit cheaper than booking directly with the hotel itself. The staff are always very polite and helpful and willing to assist you in any way they can. There is a smallish lift available for guest use ...

Review of Comfort Inn, Birmingham

Botanical Birmingham

Advantages: Plenty to see, a relaxing escape from the city.
Disadvantages: Expensive for a one-off visit. Disappointing restaurant.

Every city need its green spaces. The architecture may be spectacular and the shops fantastic, but finding a place to escape the traffic and bustle is a necessity for most city dwellers. Picture Birmingham and what do you see? The Bullring, New Street Station and Spaghetti Junction would be the first things that come to my mind. Although I've never lived in Birmingham itself, I worked there for several years. During that time I went to the Botanical Gardens regularly, but for the purposes of this review I will focus on my most recent visit which was August 2008. A Brief History Celebrity gardeners are not a new phenomenon. In the nineteenth century J.C Loudon was an influential writer on gardening and became part of London's high society. He designed the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in 1830 to provide a place where keen ...

Review of Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Birmingham International Airport - 2008

Advantages: Big enough to get the destinations, small enough to care
Disadvantages: Complex road system to get there

terminals called, not so surprisingly, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and they sit at right angles to one another with a covered zone between. All the flights go from the terminal buildings so you won't get 'bussed' at Birmingham and there are no confusing little monorails to contend with and no really long walks either. It's dead easy to find your way around. Even if you go to the wrong terminal, it won't take more than a few minutes to get where you should be. Ease of Use ********* I prefer terminal two which is much smaller and processes passengers more quickly. I've only ever seen serious queues here once and that was August 10th 2006 - the day when security went crazy and hand luggage was cut to no more than your passport and ticket and not much else. Other than that, I've never waited more than a couple of minutes to check in. The airlines ...
