ladyofsorrow, I normally wouldn't be riding on pavements or anything like that in the UK, but I've noticed on the continent (more specifically in France and Italy) that it just isn't a problem. People don't get irate, they don't shout and wail, and don't write into the local newspaper. Mainly because the bike is seen a legitimate mode of transport (so respected on the road), but one which is less dangerous than cars and more portable (so not seen as a problem if they occasionally take to pedestrian areas).
People just get on without the aggro. As a daily cyclist it opened my eyes.
Great review, sounds like the main problem is remembering where you parked! It's great that they have really incorporated cyclists into their travel system, it's so much more intimidating here, I'm not keen on the idea of cycling on pedestrian bridges (or walks etc) though. But anyway, well written!
