Community Board No. 1 Street Festival

Advantages: Lots to choose from, some superb theatre and comedy, chance to meet the great and the good!
Disadvantages: Sometimes too much to choose from, can be quite pricey, accommodation is hard to find.

...Festival - and, boy, I liked it! A little back story: I graduated from LIPA (read my op to find out more!) in Liverpool last year with a 2.1 in Acting (applause, applause!). Whilst there, I did the usual uni things - drinking, partying, wild nights out, a little bit of work when neccessary, and the traditional 'meeting friends I'll have for ever, no, I really mean it, I know I said that about people I was at college with, but this time I'm sure'. Well, I'm bound to that, because not only did we share drunken declarations of undying matedom, but six of us actually set up a theatre company together. At first it was just a way of ensuring that we had work after leaving uni, but then our little group decided to go for the big one - the Ed Fringe. Advantages: The Grand Prix of all Grand Prix's
Disadvantages: Monaco ain't cheap!

...at Terminal 1 just over 2 hours since we had last arrived and approximately 30 minutes before our flight was due to take off @ 8.20am on 26 May 2001. If we missed the flight, that was it, because we had fully paid for business class tickets to Nice with British Airways, and there was no chance either of us could afford to subsidise the flight ourselves. With much desperate negotiation, the lady agreed to check us both in, provided we carried our bags on board (no problem, they are only small overnight bags), and we made it to the gate within the proceeding 15 minutes, passing through customs and travelling the lengthy distance to Gate 52 … Huge queue at customs, duly bunked to the dismay of many awaiting passengers, we made the gate just as it was closing. Advantages: Multitude of shows, great atmosphere
Disadvantages: Expensive tickets, overcrowding in the city

...which shows are popular and well-received. The best thing about the Festival is the lively atmosphere throughout the city. It does tend to attract a lot "artistes" and wanna be celebs, which can create a sense of snobbery and pretension. If you can laugh at this, you're fine, although it does become a bit annoying to overhear some of the ridiculous comments made by those who think they know it all about "art, dahlink." Even if you cannot afford tickets to all the shows, there is plenty of entertainment in the form of street theatre. The Royal Mile is closed to traffic and it becomes a free-for-all spectacle of mimes, jugglers, musicians, dancers. Each evening after the Edinburgh Tattoo there is a short fireworks display over Edinburgh Castle, and on the last night of the Festival, there is a gigantic firework extravaganza. The best...
