Como is a beautiful town, of approximately 80.000 inhabitants, located on border of the Lario, the ancient name of the Lake Como. Lake Como, one of the most romantic places in Italy, is the third largest lake in Italy, after Garda Lake and Lake Maggiore.

Lake Como is located 25 miles north of Milan. Como and Milan are connected by bus and train. The city of Como is a center of artistic and cultural importance, combined with important industrial and commercial activity, and is famous for the production of precious silk, exported throughout the world.

In Como there are many attractions and you find many museums and historical sites to visit. The most important touristic attractions are in the so called "Città Murata", the historic center of Como: square San Fedele with the famous Dôme, a splendid Cathedral of the Renaissance age (XIV century) and the Broletto Palace of the Communal age (XIII century).

The most important museums are: the Silk Museum, the Giovio Archeological Museum of the city, the "Historical Museum "Giuseppe Garibaldi"; the "Pinacoteca Civica" (a very important exposition of paintings and art); the Tempio Voltiano, a museum dedicated to Alessandro Volta, eminent citizen of Como, and to its studies on electricity.

Very interesting is also Porta Torre (the ancient gate of the town), the romanesque Church of S. Carpoforo (one of the oldest buildings in Como), the little romanesque church dedicated to St. Cosma and St. Damian, the church of S. Fedele (ancient Cathedral of the city, built in Lombard style in XII century) and the Basilica of S. Abbondio, an important romanesque church with two little towers.

A funicular connects Como to Brunate (approximately seven minuteren of travel) a little town situated at about 700 meters of altitude, with a splendid panoramic point. From this point there is a spectacular view on the Lake of Como, other six lakes , the chain of the Alps, the Po plain towards Milan et the Ticino Canton in Switzerland.

For those who seek an oasis of tranquillity, the Lake Como is one of the most beautiful places in Italy. To reach Como is very easy. The town is located 30 kilometers from Lugano (CH) Airport and 50 kilometers from Milan Malpensa Airport (40 minuteren by car). Como and Milan are connected by bus, train and fast motorway.
