Cix or the Compulink Information eXchange is the UK online world's best kept secret. It started back in the early 80's as a BBS (Bulletin Board System) where it soon built an enthusiastic core following. As its popularity grew it morphed in to the system it is today, a wonderful yet ultimately doomed relic of a bygone era, although I'd love to report otherwise.
Before the web and before most people had Internet access and certainly before ISPs, CIX provided online conferencing, files for download, email, FTP, Usenet access and more. However, because access was back then via 1200baud modems, a masterstroke was to include support for OLR's or offline readers. This enabled you to read all the messages, emails and notifications of new files to download without being online. You could then tell it to connect at which point the OLR would ...

a few extra hundred dollars to get a reliable and solid performance DVD player. This is when a sales rep. directed me towards the JVC XV-523GD and its several other models. I also had my eye on the Aiwa models knowing from word of mouth about their ability to play MP3 and many other compressed CD's. They were out of those, so I decided to give the JVC model a try. -Audio/Video Cable
-S-video cable
-AV compulink cord
-Remote control unit
-R6P (SUM-3)/AA (15F) Batteries (x 2)
-Instructional Manual
-AC power cord
*If you desire better speaker performance not all the hook ups are available for Dolby Digital Surround Sound, even though there is the option for it ...

the cluttered 'every function here' look of a lot of video/DVD players these days. The majority of the functions are handled from the remote control, which is well designed with all the useful buttons clustered in the area where your thumb/finger is likely to rest.
Turn to the back of the unit, and you'll see it's a techie's delight with a whole area of plugs, sockets and switches to mess with. If you just want to get it plugged in with a standard configuration, that's pretty easy too - lob the power cord in, and the SCART lead, and away you go. However, if you're up for creating a mega sound system, there's audio out sockets, and digital audio out (optical and coaxial connectors). In addition to those there is a video jack and a S-video jack for even more techyness. Oh and there's something called an AV Compulink jack, although the manual insists ...
