Advantages: Cheap modern hotel with English speaking staff Disadvantages: Food was not great, no excercise facilities, bit homogenous
The Scandic chain of hotels is owned by the Hilton Group and as such the Scandic Neringa is a modern standard hotel in Lithuania's capital Vilnius.
The hotel is much like any other in the Hilton chain, with a few minor 'twists'. There is no gym, no swimming pool, but there is a sauna. The sauna is on the top floor and is free for guests. Apparently it is fairly common practice to have a 'massage' in the sauna. Yes one of those massages. Not one where your back gets rubbed, well much anyway.
The hotel has 60 rooms and is located in the centre of the business district. I can't say what all the hotel rooms were like, I only stayed in one. This was a global standard room, nice bathroom, mini bar, TV with English channels and twin beds. It was clean and equipped so that it could have been almost any 3* hotel anywhere in the world.

Advantages: Central yet quiet location, beautifully renovated building, stylish accommodation Disadvantages: More expensive than other hotels in Vilnius - but worth it!
When I found out recently that I was to head to Vilnius on a business trip, I have to admit to being prey to some misapprehensions about what awaited me. For some reason, I had matched the capital of Lithuania in my head with visions of some dull, grey Eastern bloc city with little to recommend it - but I'm happy to admit that I couldn't have been further from the truth. I'd heard and read a lot about Riga and Tallinn, but the extremely well-preserved centre of Vilnius came as a very pleasant surprise. The Shakespeare Boutique Hotel was also the perfect place to dispel any misplaced notions I may have had about the standard of accommodation in this Baltic capital.
Hidden away in a quiet side street just off the main tourist drag, and only two minutes' walk from the main square and the cathedral, the Shakespeare is perfectly placed ...
Advantages: 10 minute walk to old town Disadvantages: Building site. No customer service
We have just returned (27/5/06) from this hotel and were very disappointed in it.
The hotel is currently undergoing a major refurbishment and is more like a building site. There is no footpath outside of the hotel which is situated on a busy road. A few very uneven slabs are placed from where taxis, buses etc. drop you off.
At the hotel we had a renovated room, whilst it was light, modern and reasonably clean on arrival, it did not contain a wardrobe, shelves or any drawer space at all. The room was not serviced at any time during our 5 night stay (no fresh towels, bed linen or cleaning. I even had to contact reception for toilet paper).
This hotel is only interested in over night stays mainly by coach parties. For two days of our stay there was no hot water in the hotel without any explanation or apology. The majority ...
The 4-star Conti Hotel is situated in an excellent location right in the Old Town of Vilnius and, from its top floors, the hotel offers impressive panoramic views of the city. The overall atmosphere of the hotel, its architectural elements, and the classically elegant interior reflect the spirit of the Old Town and, notably, in the 19th century, the present hotel area was inhabited by Jewish merchants. The hotel extends a warm invitation to all guests to visit The Winter\\\'s Garden offering an exclusive menu of international culinary delights; the glass roof providing a magnificent view of the sky at night. Live music adds a touch of coziness and harmony whilst the Lobby bar, which is located near the restaurant, offers snacks and refreshments.
