This campsite is in a beautiful location. We have just returned from a weekend there as a party of 5 people. There's some stunning countryside and we had a great walk to the top of a hill where we contemplated our insignificance and ate a banana each. There's a friendly pub nearby too, with a reasonable selection of ales and some good food.

Unfortunately we found the owner lacked social skills. We were 'welcomed' to the site with a stern telling off from the lady about the various rules of the campsite, including "no noise after 10pm", and "barbeques must be 300mm above ground level". Of course, these are reasonable requests, but we found the lady's manner aggressive. The camping was expensive, costing £18 for 2 nights (2 people, 1 car, 1 tent) and we were also charged a £5 deposit which she would retain if we made too much noise. The site was full and given the amount of money this lady had taken one would imagine she'd be a bit more chipper.

The toilets were adequate but the paper was the consistency of greaseproof paper. The showers costed 10p a go and I'm told they were ok but admittedly I didn't have one. There are two vending machines in the gents, one selling condoms and one selling human pheromone wipes to attract the ladies. I attempted to buy some of these wipes but they were not dispensed, and I had to rely on my natural odour.

Overall the place was beautiful but if we were to return, we'd probably stay in the one down the road in the hope that it'd be less draconian.

nice review. sadly the owners of the campsite have not changed since i first visited in 1985, they are still unfriendly and should be avoided at all cost. There are other campsites around the area where the owners are a lot more friendlier, just look around. (or do what i did and camp on the hill sides...great fun)...regards, blissman.
