Coopers campsite is situated in Edale and is the campsite which leads you directly onto the Pennine way. I first stayed on this site in 1985 when you were actually aloud to park your car at the side of your pitch and you were allowed to have a small, but controlled, open fire. It is in a great location, right behind the village shop and a few metres from the Nags head pub, so you can crawl back to your tent after a skin full of real ale. The site is a good size, comprising of three fields which are all used for camping, either tents or caravans. They supply a shower block and toilets, which ALL sites have to supply anyway. I always used a tent,(or bivi) and felt safe in the open fields. There is a cafe at the entrance of the site which serves a half decent breakfast and is open to non site users, (as cooking your own breakfast on an open fire these days is a health hazard and against someone's human rights. Over the years the site has not changed but the health and safety rules have so the fun of the site has no gone. The owners of the site have not changes at all and considering they own most of the farm land around Edale they are, and always have been, a miserable couple considering the amount of easy money they make with some empty field.
There are other smaller but more pleasant campsites around Edale and I would advice that you use them instead of the over priced and moodily staffed Coopers campsite.
