Before you shout at me, there are reasons why I came to Birmingham this weekend, and can't make it to the Ciao get together.
It was my hubbies Birthday and it was my last saturday for finishing at 2pm. From now on I have to work 9-5 on a Saturday and it would have been big rush to get to Birmingham if I finished at 5pm.
It was a last minute decision to go here. On Friday night I had applied for a free cottage from work, but somebody beat me to it, so I decided to go on the internet and search for a bargain hotel.
We have already stayed in two hotels in Brummie, and wanted somewhere different.
I came across The Copthorne by accident, I just typed in Hotels in Birmingham in the search engine google, and eventually it led me to their website.
The first thing that hit me was the price, it was £49 for a Double room with a Queen bed ...
Advantages: Value for money, comfortable bed Disadvantages: None
Birmingham - another top business destination, but well worth a trip if you like shopping too so not just for the business traveller.
Location: This is about 10 minutes walk from New St Station - you can get a taxi but it goes around a one way system and takes about 20 minutes so probably best to walk. It has a busy road on one side of it - but the windows are double glazed so noise not too much of a problem.
Reception: Efficient and usually friendly staff will greet you. You can pick up a free apple or boiled sweet too which is nice.
Rooms: Neat and tidy - free internet connection which is always good, comfy bed and a good sized TV. You cant control the room temperature though which is a shame.
Bathroom: Clean and neat, with a bath and shower and sink / toilet so everything that you could possibly need but somehow not ...
Advantages: Very nice hotel, centrally located, polite staff Disadvantages: Can be hot in summer
We will be spending the coming weekend (July 2004) at the CopthorneBirmingham. The main reason is that, apart from it being a nice hotel, they offer you a three course meal together with a double room for 60 Pound.
We booked the same offer (lastminute.com) for two nights last summer and were impressed with the service and the facilities in the hotel. In particular, we didn't expect that we would be dining in the Goldsmith's Restaurant for such a good price. I'd never had such a sumptuous meal - three courses which could be chosen from the table d'hote menu and plenty of little delicacies in between. All served in a style which you would expect from a four-star hotel. We felt we were absolutely pampered by attentive but discreet waiters - a wonderful experience.
The two saunas (steam sauna and conventional sauna), the swimming ...
