We will be spending the coming weekend (July 2004) at the Copthorne Birmingham. The main reason is that, apart from it being a nice hotel, they offer you a three course meal together with a double room for 60 Pound.
We booked the same offer (lastminute.com) for two nights last summer and were impressed with the service and the facilities in the hotel. In particular, we didn't expect that we would be dining in the Goldsmith's Restaurant for such a good price. I'd never had such a sumptuous meal - three courses which could be chosen from the table d'hote menu and plenty of little delicacies in between. All served in a style which you would expect from a four-star hotel. We felt we were absolutely pampered by attentive but discreet waiters - a wonderful experience.
The two saunas (steam sauna and conventional sauna), the swimming pool and the jacuzzi made our weekend in the Copthorne into something like a short holiday. The only disadvantage I found with the hotel room was that it did not have air conditioning. At night it was so hot that we had to open the windows - which meant that we had to put up with the street noise. However, this will not be a problem this year because the weather at the moment is pretty grim and I am looking forward to relaxing in the jacuzzi whilst looking at the grey sky outside through the glass roof.
Unfortunately, for a long time lastminute.com did not have this special offer on. But then, last week I noticed it was on again and I decided to book straight away. We are looking forward to it and hope that everything will be as good as last year.

Have booked to stay here for a forthcoming meeting in Birmingham, although a little put off discovering the rooms don't have any air conditioning. You had a good deal, thought I had got a good price booking through activehotels for £65 room only (although still considerably cheaper than their standard rack rates).
