It is located at the top end of the town. This means it is great to explore Plymouth - the shopping is on your doorstep, and Plymouth Hoe and Barbican are about a 10 minute walk away. First of all, I have never had a "bad" experience in the Copthorne. There have been times where an issue arose, but this was then sorted out by the front desk staff. Saying that, the issue shouldn't have arisen in the first place.
Pro's :
Great Location in the center of Plymouth. If you are travelling by train, it is a 3 minute walk away from the station (or a really cheap taxi ride!).
The prices - especially for weekend deals - can be competative compared to other hotels / B&B's in the area.
They have parking under the hotel for hotel guests. There is a small charge for this (about £3 or £4 per day). I have stayed at B&B's on Plymouth Hoe, and they still charge for residential parking, so the rate at the Copthorne isn't that bad.

When you check out, you are more than welcome to leave bags at reception for the rest of the day (whilst you finish shopping/sightseeing)
Con's :
There is a whopping great big Sainsbury's (and car park) next door. We once got given a ground floor room overlooking the sainsbury's public car park. We could have managed - but the room had no net curtains, etc... so we had literally no privacy. We complained and got moved straight away, so it wasn't a huge problem for us.
The hotel feels a bit dated. The decor is slightly old, and it is need of a refurb. It isn't dirty though - it just feels like the 80's or 90's style. I would place the hotel more of a joint 3*/4* (not good enough for a 4*, but a high 3* standard).
Overall :
I would recommend the Copthorne, as it is good value for money at the weekend - especially after staying/experiencing some of the other hotels in the area. I would just look at it as a good 3*, and then you won't be too dissapointed.
