The Copthorne Rules!

Advantages: Convenient location. Good service. Great food.
Disadvantages: Difficult to criticise. I'd have liked a smoking room!

I wonder! D'you remember the first record you ever bought? The first film you ever saw at the cinema? Your first girlfriend / boyfriend? And other such important rites of passage? Answers on a postcard... More to the point, do you remember the first "decent" hotel you ever stayed at? Speaking for myself, most of the answers to the above questions are a tad awkward, but the first really decent hotel I recall staying at was actually this one, some ten years or so ago, whilst attending an interview to become a Mathematics teacher at a rather large school near Slough called Eton College (you may have heard of it, but it matters not if you haven't). It was thus with a wry smile that I received an e-mail from Priceline telling me that I was to stay at the Copthorne Slough / Windsor, and for a bargain price of just £45, for baby Josh's most ...

Copthorne Tara - The Customer

Advantages: Good location, access to tube station, nice/well looked after hotel
Disadvantages: Some of the staff/service is not up to scratch

Getting There: -------------------- The Copthorne Tara Hotel is conveniently situated a short walk (about 5 minutes) from the Kensington High Street Tube station. This means that getting to and from the hotel is quick and convenient. The Kensington High Street Tube Station is part of both the District and Circle Lines, meaning that you can get to many major and convenient locations by jumping on the tube there (including Kings Cross and Victoria stations). Although this was probably bad luck, I do urge you to check that while staying at the Copthorne Tara, the district and circle lines are running as unfortunately during my stay they were under maintenance for 2 of the days. In this case the nearest station was Notting Hill, which was around a 30 minute walk away (not good when wearing high heals to go to the theatre). In terms ...

Travelodge Slough

Advantages: Near railway station and bus station
Disadvantages: Not an exciting place

I have heard about this hotel chain for a long time and the online £10 supersaver rate looks very attractive. In April 06, I had to attend an event in Slough and the organiser booked me into Travelodge Slough. I was sent a confirmation code and was told that it would be £61 including breakfast. I got into Slough railway station at half seven in the evening and then I was told to take a taxi to the hotel since that's more convenient. It only took a few minutes ride and I paid £3.60 for the taxi. The hotel looks nice from the outside but upon entrance, it looks simple and really a no-frills hotel. There's a queue at the reception and there's only one staff on duty. The other staff with her uniform on told me she's on her break and told me to wait to be served by the staff on duty. The staff on duty is friendly and tries to have ...
