In the summer that has just passed two friends and I left for a fun in the sun holiday to Corfu although most of our fun was had in the evening and the early hours of the morning.

We were staying in a self-catering apartment, which as you can imagine was a laugh with three 18-year-old males trying to live in it. None of us could really cook, none of us could clean, and I don’t think any of us had been on holiday without our parents present, but don’t hold me to that I’m not entirely sure.

We were staying about 20 minutes from Kavos, which is the main place to be on the island for the youngsters of an evening as the nightlife there is something like I’ve never seen before. The streets were just bar after bar after bar…. You get the picture! The small village/town that we were living in was called St Michaels and it was very nice in that it had 10-15 nice bars to be in and plenty of restaurants aswell.

The food was good, as it tasted nice and it was cheap. The drinks were very, very cheap. Right you get 550 Drachma to the pound. Beer for half a litre was 900 Drachma, and cocktails were 1000-1500 drachmas each. While we were there I drank mostly cocktails, as they tasted better than the beer that was available and you got more alcohol per drachma in the cocktails. With regards to the food most of the time I had Pizza, which cost between 1300 and 2000 drachma. This was for a large pizza that I couldn’t always eat so in my view totally worth the money. On the last night I had, as a special thing really, peppered steak which was gorgeous but that cost me about £8, but it was the most expensive item on the menu, and still cheaper than in England, well down by me anyway in the south-east.

While we were there we met up with a group of twenty-one people from near Leeds this was Amy-C and her friends. Some we got on well with and still keep in regular contact, but others not so well and so we don’t contact them, although we probably could if we needed to. And in case you’re wondering whom it was I went with it was danradders and flod.

We went for one week from Monday to Monday. On the Wednesday we went to a beach party in Kavos, which I think cost about £10 and that, included one free drink and transport there and back. It was very good, there were lots of dancers and good music, however the drinks prices were about double what they were back in St Michaels but that was to be expected really so we didn’t mind too much. On the Friday we went to an aqua park where there was a lot of water slides and a large swimming pool and where there were a lot of lovely ladies in some lovely bikinis but that is not what this is about. The aqua park was great and cost about £12 which included transport there and back but that meant we had to get up early which, I assure you was an experience in itself.

The tour operator we went with was golden sun and I can’t fault them myself because the apartment was much better than the ones our newfound friends were staying in because we were right in the middle of St Michaels which didn’t bother us because we could fall out of bed into a bar and then crawl home, GGRREEAATT!!!!!! We came across golden sun because we booked our holiday over the Internet, well danradders did, but I found it, so you’ll have to ask him about details on this. The website was www.greektourism.com or something like that, sorry can’t remember the exact address but that’s close.

The beaches where we were, were nice, they were sand not shingle and so we went there quite a lot during the day, and at night and held our own beach parties if you know what I mean. Most of our time overall we spent drinking and partying with some recovering in between and so we didn’t see that much of the island, but we don’t care we all got what we wanted out of the holiday.

If you are going on holiday to Corfu I suggest you take a lot of sun cream, I didn’t get burned myself, but I don’t burn anyway luckily but some people we saw walking round looked rather red, OUCH!

With regards to money I took £300 pounds for the week and spent all of it except about £20, I was out for a good time and so I had one, I was rarely seen without a drink in my hand. Our friends took from what I gather £150-£250 each for two weeks so it just depends upon you personal wants or sometimes needs as to how much money to spend.

I hope I have given you a good idea as to what the island is like, this is more aimed at the younger members as they would be the ones who are more likely to take advantage of the bars on offer and clubs. But I hope everyone has leaned something through reading this even it’s just the exchange rate.

Come back soon to see what exciting subject I choose next, although it may be a week or so as I leave for university on Sunday and so may not find the time to read, rate and write.

Will write again soon I promise,

Cheers Simon
