Partying at the Palace (ish)

Advantages: Comfortable, clean, good staff
Disadvantages: A few faults, doesnt live up to expectations

This review is about my Christmas party experience at the Strand Palace Hotel. This year, I was in charge of organising our office Christmas party, and, being based in South East London, the department tends to head to Bromley or Greenwich for a meal. But this year we decided to go all out, and go 'up west', and so I came across the Strand Palace hotel on my googlequest and we decided to go posh as well. The booking process was slightly tiresome, seeing as the particular member of staff we made our booking through was somewhat challenged in the brains department. The initial booking process was easy. We booked ourselves in for the three-course carvery meal, and then Channy and I (the office babies) were sent scuttling around collecting everybody's cash (£33 per head). All was sent in when a couple of weeks later, the girl calls me ...

Corinthia Towers 5* Hotel in Prague

Advantages: Good location, great pool
Disadvantages: Expensive in the hotel, no tea making facilities in room

Corinthia Towers, Prague We stayed in the 5* Corinthia Towers Hotel in Prague last year and although we had a lovely time, I do have mixed feelings on the place. My husband and I needed to book a hotel in Prague as we were going there for a wedding. We scoured the internet for deals on hotels and after hours and hours and looking at endless deals and reading reviews we decided to book one of Lastminute.com's "Top Secret Hotels". Now I am always wary of booking somewhere and not knowing the name of the place, but we did do our homework. As the hotel was a 5* there were less hotels that it could actually be, so we compared all of the details and worked out which hotel it was before we booked. A slight risk, but we were right and it saved us about £100.00. So we stayed at the Corinthia Towers Hotel for 5 nights ...

Review of Corinthia Towers, Prague

Another one bites the dust...

Advantages: Leaves room for something bigger, better...
Disadvantages: Rebuilding work will have aknock-on effect for those staying in the environs.

On a trip to Malta in mid-July this year, surprised was I to find that this once ornate, marble-lined oasis of luxury in a 4-star hotel, opened in the early 1980s and operated by the Corinthia Group, now lies derelict; now merely a collection of some 360 rusting balconies on a sprawling sandstone shell. It is survived by the nearby St. Thomas Tower, completed ca 1614 by the Knights Hospitaller of the Order of St John of Jerusalem under the leadership of Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt, and just visible in the left of the picture attached to this review (taken during the hotel's heyday, I hasten to add!). Fear not, however - in August 2008, local developers JPM Brothers have indicated their desire to build a luxurious 5-star landmark on this prime seafront promontory location in the south-east of Malta. At the same time, the Maltese ...
