We stayed in the 5* Corinthia Towers Hotel in Prague last year and although we had a lovely time, I do have mixed feelings on the place.
My husband and I needed to book a hotel in Prague as we were going there for a wedding. We scoured the internet for deals on hotels and after hours and hours and looking at endless deals and reading reviews we decided to book one of Lastminute.com's "Top Secret Hotels". Now I am always wary of booking somewhere and not knowing the name of the place, but we did do our homework. As the hotel was a 5* there were less hotels that it could actually be, so we compared all of the details and worked out which hotel it was before we booked. A slight risk, but we were right and it saved us about £100.00.
So we stayed at the Corinthia Towers Hotel for 5 nights for the cost of £281 and like I said saved around £100 instead of booking it directly through Lastminute.com. This got us a standard double room with breakfast on the 17th floor.
So how do lastminute.com describe the hotel?

Breakfast
We were entitled to a free breakfast in the hotel and the breakfast was magnificent! I have never had a better breakfast! It was served in the 'Let's Eat' Restaurant, and we certainly did, eat that is - the only free meal you get, you need to make the most of it! Whatever you liked it was catered for, cereal, continental breakfast, including a variety of breads, cheeses, meats, or you could have a full english breakfast. Or if you're really hungry you could have all of the above and secong helpings!
Breakfast was buffet style with staff bringing round tea and coffee and set in an airy non smoking environment. There were always plenty of tables which were well layed with clean crockery.
There are three restaurants, a bar and a cafe all serving food. We only ate in the Let's Eat restaurant above and in the Italian. We both had pizza in the Italian and it was large, tasty, in fact very similar to a pizza from Pizza Express. Service was excellent, but the restaurant was very empty! I think I know why, it's the prices, not the prices of the actual food... a pizza for £10 I can handle, a small sprite for nearly a fiver I cannot. I fancied a glass of wine, but could not bring myself to pay the price, so settled for pop instead. So to sum up this restaurant I would say great food, great service, drinks hugely over priced!!!!
The other restaurant also looked nice, but was always empty, we did not eat here simply because of the inflated prices. It was a Thai restaurant, my partner loves Thai and should the prices have been more reasonable we would have tried it, but we could simply not stretch the budget any further.
The cafe again, very nice looking, but one sandwhich, a tenner? We just thought they were having a laugh. We did not eat here. The bar sold tapas and, sandwhiches and bar snacks, but we did not eat here again the prices were just too excessive.
The drinks throughout the hotel are very expensive, you're looking at at least a tenner for a single spirit, just far too expensive for us.
So to sum up, the food and drink taste great, the service is great, make the most of your breakfast so you feel like you're saving money and. The drinks are the most overpriced I have ever seen!!!
Value for money?
We certainly got a good deal for our room saving around £100 before we even got there and after looking at many many hotels on the net, Corinthia Towers is better priced than all of the other 5* star hotels even if you book directly with them. we paid £281, you are looking at more like £500+ for the time we went, for the same amount of nights at any other 5*. Corinthia Towers is also better priced than many other 3* or 4* hotels in the vicinity.
Okay, so now for the bad bit, if you want to buy anything else in the hotel it is really expensive! There were no tea making facilities in the room and as true brits we like a cuppa before we go to bed. This means that you need to order a tea either in the bar or to your room. Two teas in the bar will cost you 210kc, which is just over £7! In my mind this is really over priced. If you want the tea in your room, you have to pay an additional 100kc, another £3.50 or so. So If the bar is closed, you will pay over a tenner for tea! Shocking!!!
No the other thing to be wary of in this hotel is the leisure facilities. We were very lucky in that use of the pool, gym (not that we used it), sauna, steam etc were free for us to use. We used the facilities every day and they were great, but whilst we were there we saw money people who did not have this included in their package. They had assumed that they would and it would cost them about a tenner a day to use them. There is a little hidden cost there if you are not careful. We had already picked up that hotels in Prague normally charge extra for useage so were careful to pick a deal which allowed us free access. Going to a hotel in Prague? You have been warned, check the details carefully!
Leisure facilities
We enjoyed using the pool which was on the top floor of the hotel and had amazing views. If you wanted to simply relax then you could take a book up there and lie down on one of the loungers. Though it's indoors, it is a major sun trap! We also enjoyed using the sauna and steam room, though the problem was as there were in the respective men and women's changing rooms we could not go in together. The bowling alley was closed while we were there, which disapointed us as we didn't know until we tried to book. We did not use the gym, though it did look fully equipped.
