Tintagel - Fit for a King

Advantages: Beautiful historic area
Disadvantages: Can be overun by tourists

...to look at the North Cornwall Tourist Board’s website which provides everything you should need. However, I must say that our self catering cottage called Halgabron Mill just outside Tintagel was superb with wood burning fires, woodland setting and can cater from 2-12 people. A simple Yahoo search will bring this up.

TINTAGEL CASTLE:

Everybody who visits Tintagel must visit the castle which has a spectacular location ...
...it was Richard, Earl of Cornwall the youngest son of King John who built it in the 12th Century. Even earlier finds from an excavation in 1998 found pottery dating back to 5th and 6th centuries and small settlement buildings have been uncovered clinging to the cliff edges. It is wonderfully atmospheric, particularly when we went in wild, windy autumn which has the added benefit of very few tourists.

...the only seashore promenade in Cornwall which features The Jubilee Bathing Pool (a 1930s, Arc Deco, outdoor, salt-water swimming pool) the only remaining lido in the South West. The promenade extends for approximately a mile culminating at the port of Newlyn, a busy fishing port famous for the work of some outstanding artists in the late 19th century such as Stanhope Forbes, Elizabeth Forbes and Frank Bramley. Cornish Beauty

Advantages: Wondeful landscapes and seaviews
Disadvantages: none

...three sides by the sea Cornwall has some spectacular sea views and there are over 300 miles of coastal paths to follow. Last year a YouGov survey quizzed over 2500 people across England. asking four questions about happiness at home and work, life balance and stress. Compared with national averages, people in the South West reported some of the highest happiness and lowest stress levels in the country. Many people attribute this to being close to ...
...WEST COAST West Cornwall is an area of full of character with the fishing villages of Newlyn, Cadgwith and Porthleven. Lands End is situated here and the view from the cliff tops really makes you think you are standing on the edge of the world. There is a small shopping village where typical Cornish goods can be bought such as fudge, crafts ,cider, clothes and jewellery etc. You can have your photo taken beside the signpost which has the distances ...

Clotted Cream and Much More...

Advantages: Tons of things to do, fantastic scenery, relatively inexpensive
Disadvantages: Poor road signing means getting lost is a constant danger!

...life, I'd never been to Cornwall before. Having just got back from a week holidaying there, I am pleased to report that I was very pleasantly surprised with what the county had to offer. We stayed in a holiday cottage just outside the small village of Hayle. In fact the whole county is made up of countryside and small villages, with very few actual cities. The scenery inland is beautiful and there are hundreds of walks you can take - beware though, ...
...The real beauty of Cornwall is that there is such a huge variety of places to go and see. There are a plethora of exhibitions, museums, historic sites, zoos, animal sanctuaries, theatres, wreck fishing, mines, steam railways, ports, sailing trips, farms open to the public, karting tracks, mazes, gardens (including the famous Eden Project), and more - and on the whole the prices aren't that high either. Eating out isn't as expensive an occupation ...

Ye olde cornish skulduggery.

Advantages: Scenic.beautiful beaches.
Disadvantages: Expensive in the tourist places.

...lucky- I got it. CORNWALL AND MY IMPRESSIONS... For several years,I’ve always wanted to visit Cornwall, and compare the Italian beaches with it- in particular,St Ives, Land’s End and Sennen Cove. I just become fascinated by the history and the interwoven stories and culture, and to discover some of the many coves and beaches of the far south western tip, is my idea of heaven,I loved it. -To have the first bite of a Cornish pastie fulfilled my childhood ...
...onto the travel sites and cornwall offerings,it took me 2 days to sift through a very short list of possibilities. Self catering fishermens cottages by the river/sea that wouldn’t cost a bomb in the post xmas/New year’s period at short notice was perhaps an unrealistic option. Besides, no one had any vacancies.the popular season was fully booked up. Blast! In despair I clicked on the last possible link and found a wonderful place with just the ...

Kernow Bys Vyken!

Advantages: One of the most breathtakingly beautiful places in the UK
Disadvantages: Very weak economically, relieves too heavily on summer tourism

Cornwall is a place I hold very close to my heart. I was born there 23 years ago and lived there up until winter 2006 when the awful work/house price situation finally moved us a little further up the country. I lived in two of the main tourist favourites; Penzance and St. Ives. Cornwall is like a treasure chest. Pictures in brochures do not do it justice. Three sides of the county are surrounded by breathtaking coast-line, golden stretches of sand, ...
...Tamar you know you're in Cornwall because it has a distinctive feel. North Cornwall is more luscious and green than the south, it is a little more country than coastal but boasts just as many tourist must-see sites, such as Bodmin Moor and St Agnes. It is ideal for walkers and people who simply love to be surrounded by nature in its most raw form. The South of Cornwall is the 'famous' part. It has so many beautiful, golden beaches that rival those ...

A balance between good and bad.

Advantages: Buses are more frequent than they used to be and new routes have been introduced.
Disadvantages: They often break down and aren't waterproof in the rain!

First provide a wide range of bus networks around Devon and Cornwall. As I live in Cornwall I will refer to these services in my review. As a general rule, the buses are dirty and fares have gone up in recent years. However, reliability has increased somewhat, and the frequency of some buses have been increased. Another point to consider is that Cornwall seems to be the 'bus graveyard' of England, most service buses are over 20 years old, this means breakdowns are frequent- not good if you are travelling to Lands End on a 2-hourly bus, or in my case, late for an A-Level exam, as my bus broke down on the A30! On balance, First serves rural communities well and tries to provide a good service with limited resources. Buses are also a good option for tourists, I would not recommend driving cars through the narrow streets ...

The Best Holiday Location In England By Far!

Advantages: EVERYTHING..a beautiful holiday spot you will want to revisit time and time again!
Disadvantages: too many stag and hen do's!

Newquay has absolutely everything! It is situated in the most beautiful area of England..Cornwall! There is something for everyone, young or mature, male or female, families or couples! Fistral beach is one of the most stunning beaches which the UK has to offer, it is always kept spotless and clean..even through the busy summer months! There is constant lifeguard attention and it is very family friendly. Newquay has many attractions, including a zoo, nearby water parks and theme parks, a dairy park..lots of fun days out for kids. As far as accommodation goes there is something for all tastes, many family camping sites, camping sites for young people, luxury apartments, campsites with static caravans and lots of surf lodges. In my personal experience the best surf lodge in Newquay is Goofy's, which is situated on Headland Road. It is very ...

Very Picturesque Indeed

Advantages: Picturesque. Lovely Harbour. Active Fishing Fleet
Disadvantages: Does get busy

Polperro in Southern Cornwall is awesome. It is stunningly picturesque and ranks in my book as one of the loveliest fishing villages in England and that is saying a lot because there are some gems in Cornwall and Yorkshire. It has a working fishing fleet, now that is something of a rarity in Modern Britain, a wonderful harbour and pedestrian friendly streets. If you want to stay for a few days there are cottages to rent as well as a plethora of very homely bed and breakfasrt establishments. Despite being immensely popular with visitrs, the local Cornish landladies dont sting you. Rates are very reasonable, the food good and most landladies are a veritable mine of information about Polperro and other delightful places such as Looe. You wont go hungry in Polperro. There are several good restaurants and you will not be too surprised to ...
