We have visited Lands End once and I am sure that will be our one and only visit to this place. We expected to find a place of natural beauty where we could enjoy the views from the cliffs and the sensation of being at the edge of our country.
What we found was amusement arcades, tacky shops and expensive cafes. Any natural beauty of this site is distracted by the greed of the businesses situated here. You even have to pay £3 to park your car on a grass field.
We have all come to expect this type of format at the more popular seaside resorts and there we can all enjoy the noise of slot machines and the smell of hot dogs, but Lands End surely is something special, not just another opportunity to make money.
If you want to see how this site should be, then go to John O'Groats. The Scottish people know how to preserve a site of natural beauty. The people running Lands End have a lot to learn.
I have been there and yes, I have to agree it most certainly is tacky. The author is right in saying this is a big disappointment to tourists expecting to see an area of scenic natural beauty. I do remember visiting there in the 1970's, before it's present owners greatly commercialised it. It's very sad that the National Trust didn't take over this bit of headland, because I'm sure they wouldn't have turned it into such an eyesore. Anyone wanting to see Land's End would do better to avoid this money-grabbing attraction and take the coastal road that runs past Land's End instead (which goes from St. Just through Zennor). The scenery there is rugged but spectacular. There are isolated cottages and farms, chickens wandering across the road - it's just so peaceful and uncommercialised. ....much more beautiful in my opinion.

Been there once at night to see the fireworks (wasn't bad), but you are quite right. Take care, Michael.
