I've recently come back from a break in Cornwall with my two chidren and had such a good time that i wanted to share my experience with you.

If you have a family and are looking for a cheap break away for a few nights Looe Bay Holiday caravan Park is idea.

I booked my holiday with Weststar Holiday Parks the company that own Looe bay caravan site. They also have other parks Mullion holiday park on the Lizard Peninsula, Sandford Holiday park in Dorset and Hayling Island Holiday Park Just between Portsmouth and Chichester.

I decided to book my stay for Looe bay as it meant we would be nearer to where my parent in laws live in Liskeard.

East Looe

Looe is a beautiful traditional Pretty Fishing Village it has a harbour and a sandy beach there are plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs to walk around. It can get very busy with all the tourists but it still feels very relaxed and laid back. Looe is definately not for those who are looking for lots of nightlife as there were no clubs as i could see.

The caravan site is just one and a half miles away from looe. There are buses which run from Looe to Liskeard and Polperro. There is also a bus which stops outside the caravan park which runs from plymouth to Looe it is idea for those who dont have cars. Be warned buses usually run one every hour but you can pick up bus time tables and train timetables from the caravan site.
There is also a train single line track that runs from looe to Liskeard unfortunately when we we're there they were doing works on the track so there was a replacement bus service instead.
For those of you who are fit and like walking you can also walk down from the caravan site into looe. I have been told it takes around half n hour to go down and 3 Quarters of a hour to come back up again.
Be warned it is very steep and i was advised by other visitors who had done the walk not to attempt it with a buggy.
Needless to say we took the bus.

A four night stay Self catering Monday to Friday for 2 Adults and 2 Children cost us £120.00 orginally £140.00 but we got a £20 discount on booking.
We booked for a Economy 1 Bedroom Caravan but on arrival we were pleastantly suprised to find we were given a two bedroom caravan with a pull out bed in the lounge also.

Accommodation

All caravans come with a fully equipped Kitchen full size cooker, family sized fridge, pots and pans, cutlery etc.
Colour TV Ours had a built in Dvd Player.
Bathroom with shower, wash basin and toliet
Bed linen and Duvets are provided, but would advise to take extra sheets and blankets as we found it does get rather cold first thing in the morning and at night.

Free gas and electricity with a gas or electric fire in the lounge'
For those of you with cars there is parking alongside or near by.

Economy caravans do not come with a microwave but can be hired for £15.00 a week.

Superior and premier Range caravans also come with a fridge freezer.

You can also hire, Travel cots, Cot sides, Highchairs and DVD players for your conveinece.

We decided to go self catering but you can do half board which is £95 per adult weekly £65 per child

Breakfast only weekly £24.50 per adult £16.50 per child.
For those of you who cant bear to leave your pets at home you can bring them with you for a extra charge.

First impressions of Caravan

I was very impressed with how clean and nicely decorated the caravan was. Bear in mind the last time i'd been in a caravan was over 17 years ago when i was age 11 and back then we did not have a toliet, washing facilities, fridge or hot water in the caravan.

We were able to book in anytime after 4pm. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. They provided us with a pack containing all the information we needed on what was available on the caravan site and a map to show us where we were pitched.

Thankfully we were situated not too far away from the reception area and facilities.

On Park Facilities

The caravan park had a indoor heated swimming pool which had seperate sessions for smaller children. It opens from 8am to 7pm and closes for lunch between 12.30-1pm This was included in the holiday price.
There was also a Amusement Centre which had the usual, Racing car games, shooting games, penny machines and also ten pin bowling. All for a additional charge.

There's a snooker hall, Crazy golf for a small additional charge.
Multi sports court, Junior sports court, Outside Adventure playground, Crazy caves and a indoor childrens play area.
Free live entertainment every night.

For the children there are children's clubs, Tot stars for under 5's, Star landers for 5 to 11's and Action stars for 12+.

Everyday there would be a different activity on for the children in the sundowner club.

For example the Under 5's would have sessions such as dressing up, Dancing, Storytime, painting etc. These normally lasted for a bout a hour one session in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Weststar have there own mascot which most of the children love and can often see in and around the caravan park especially during activities. How ever my 18month old was not keen and burst into tears everytime she spotted the big green dinosuar called Lizzie walking around.

Parents need to stay with chidren as there is no creche service avaiable.

The evening entertainment starts around 6.30pm every night this consists of Bingo and Family Disco's, Young talent shows and Quiz nights and carrys on until midnight.

In the sundowner club were the entertainment is held there is a small bar and you our able to order light snacks such as hotdogs and sandwiches.

There is a seperate pub called the Gull and Galleon which is joined to the restaurant area This has a satellite tv, Darts and quizzes, pub grub available as well as internet stations which are quite handy they cost 50p for 9 minutes.

The Restaurant & Carvery is open for Breakfasts and evening meals. It is adviced to book a table as it does get very busy in the restaurant in the evening.
You can expect to pay between £8.95 and £12.95 for a main course.

A childrens menu is available for £3.95 this includes a main course with ice cream and squash.

There is the big munch Takeaway which is situated in the amusement arcade.

There is a wide selection to choose from such as Beefburgers, Chicken burgers, pizza's and jacket potatoes.
It is open in the evenings from 5pm to late and the price is what you would expect to pay from somewhere like mac donalds or Burger king.

For those of you like me who are on budget we bought food from the convience store on site which included everything you could want from the obvious such as bread and milk to swimming nappies and top up cards.

This was open from 8am to 6pm everyday. It was nice to be greeted by smiles and friendly faces. I bought most of my gifts here to take back home. They sell Rock and fudge, clotted cream biscuits and other such nick nacks.
The staff were very helpful and made you feel very welcome.

Everyone who has small children knows that you can never take enough clothes with you on hoilday.
The caravan site has it's own Launderette which is operated by cards which you need to pay for at reception.

As i was only there for 4 days i got away with doing just one small load which costed me £3.00 for the wash and £1 to use the dryer. You can also buy washing tablets for 50p. For those of you who like to iron your clothes they have irons in the launderette free of charge.

Evaulation

All in all the caravan site has all the basic's you need for a great family break. It is laid back and has a relaxing atomosphere.

It is best suited for families with small children and is idea for those who are on a small budget.

There is lots of activities to keep the children entertained and it's not to far from the sea side.
With over 290 caravans on site ranging from economy, premier and superior there is something suitable for everyone.

You are surrounded by beautful cornish countryside what more could you want.
I'll definately be going back.
