Smugglers' haven - Jamaica Inn
Advantages: Experience it in half a day, interesting Disadvantages: Can be costly
...Thus began our exploration of Jamaica Inn... Jamaica Inn Jamaica Inn was originally built in 1750 as a coaching inn and acted as a staging post for people to change horses for the long journey across the moor. A coach house, stables and a tack room were added to the Inn towards the end of the eighteenth century. It was built at a time of heavy smuggling and, indeed, it has been estimated that around half of the brandy and a quarter of all ... ...nearby coasts. Jamaica Inn was ideally situated to serve smugglers and their contraband. In the early twentieth century, the novelist, Daphne Du Maurier, was often inspired by Cornwall as settings for her novels and indeed, she went on the write one that was appropriately named "Jamaica Inn". Nowadays, the Inn comprises a hotel (with pub), a gift shop and a museum, dedicated to both Smugglers and Daphne Du Maurier. The Gift Shop The Gift ...

Tintagel - take a step back in time and enjoy the scenery
Advantages: Those that enjoy fantastic scenery and walking will love it Disadvantages: The area is not helpful to those with a physical disability because of the ruggedness of the locat
Tintagel is a small village on the North (West) coast of Cornwall. It was originally called Trevena until the Post Office established the village as Tintagel in the mid 19th century. Tintagel was already the name of the headland and the parish, and its residents were happy as it gave them additional benefits from the increased numbers of tourists flocking to see the greatest asset Tintagel Castle. So many in fact, that they built a hotel on the edge ... ...hoped would come when the railway line was opened. In reality this never happened, but it is still a very beautiful location to look out into the ocean and to the castle only a short distance away.
It is a very picturesque village set on the rugged Atlantic coast. There are a number of very old buildings including the post office, but it is the castle that makes the location. It is built in two parts with the outer part being on the headland and ...

Smuggles Haven Review August 2009 - Read On
Advantages: No noise restrictions, drug policy, or hygiene standards Disadvantages: Don't offer refunds, make you stay once paid
Firstly you should take note that I bothered to enter all my personal details into this website to write this review just so that no one else has to visit this site!!!!!!!!!!
On arrival it all looked very tranquil, peaceful and somewhere nice to camp for my first visit with friends to Cornwall. We paid the £11.00 per person plus £25.00 security deposit and was told just find any spot you like for you tent "it’s the last field at the back". We than ... ...of muddy patches of grass that drunken teenagers get so drunk, from dusk to dawn that the surroundings must seem ok. Between each pitch (if you were unlucky enough to find one) there was almost an enough room to hammer in the tent pegs without overlapping your neighbors, but only just. We eventually found a space at the back of the field and reluctantly put up our tent, after being told they didn't do refunds so tried to make the best of it. We put ...

smugglers-party haven
Advantages: great location for boardmasters, ideal for young groups wanting a lively holiday Disadvantages: noisy, lively, basic facilities, expensive on-site shop
...reading some awful reviews about smugglers haven I thought I should share my opinions. I went, expecting the worst and was plesently surprised.
We were in a group of 5 people in our late twenties and were probably the oldest people on the site. We camped for a long weekend for the Boardmasters festival so the site was fully booked. We had a long walk to the top of a hill but had plenty of space up there and great views across the valley. The atmosphere ... ...than in the main caravan site. The caravans attract a younger crowd- 14-16s. The porta-loos and showers were cleaned regually but there were long queues for the showers in the morning.
It was a 5 minute walk across the fields to watergate bay and regular buses running into the town centre.
The shop on-site is very expensive but you can take your own booze.
I will warn you that most people do not sleep until 6am so take some earplugs if you like ...
