Fowey's Lifebuoy Cafe - catching crabs

Advantages: Lovely little day cafe
Disadvantages: None for me

So what to do on August Bank Holiday Monday in Cornwall? We rather foolishly imagined that most attractions would be open in this most touristy of counties, so we were most put out after visiting a couple of (admittedly minor) local gardens and discover t ...

Truro's Zafiros - reasonably priced OK food in nice surroundings

Advantages: Nice surrondings and not overpriced
Disadvantages: No real ale and beloved's meal not as good as mine

During our late August week in Cornwall, we were holed up in a rather fine manor cum farm house in the rather small village of Ladock. Our nearest large town was Truro about five miles down the road, and it was inevitable that we would spend some of our t ...

Jamie's (Scandalously Expensive) Dinners

Advantages: Amazing location, helpful and attentive waiting staff
Disadvantages: Food isn't as good as it should be. The prices are outrageous.

≈≈ Surf's Up ≈≈

Advantages: Interesting menu. Nicely presented food. Lovely light and airy location. Stunning views.
Disadvantages: Hard to park nearby during the day and summer season.

On a recent stay in Cornwall, we visited Newquay, it being the nearest town to the cottage we had rented. Newquay itself appeared to have seen better days, as like a lot of other seaside towns, it seemed over-run by fish and chip outlets, tacky souvenir ...

A Food Hero

Advantages: Great food, casual, family-friendly
Disadvantages: Not suitable for quiet meals, tables must be returned after 2 hours

His recent philandering aside, I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for Rick Stein. He seems to be much more of a cook than a chef and doesn’t seem determined to take over the world through the medium of advertising and being irritating (Jamie Oliver) or ...
